NVIDIA is pushing out an update to its Shield Portable, which brings along with it Android 5.1, and Chromecast support. Unfortunately, while bringing some new features along with it, this update also removes support for Miracast, Sonic 4, the Android Browser, and more. Here are all of the changes found in software upgrade 103:

  • Android 5.1
    • Upgrade to the latest Lollipop OS
    • Fixes a bug that does not allow books to be read in the Google Play Books app
    • Permanently removes Sonic 4, Episode II, Expendable: Rearmed, and Android Browser
  • Adds support for Chromecast
    • Enables SHIELD portable as a source device for Chromecast or any Google Cast Ready device connected to your TV
    • Miracast is no longer supported
  • Updates Twitch app with latest version

NVIDIA notes that this is an optional update, so if you want to keep the games, and don't care for Chromecast support, you are able to skip it. If interested in the new functionality, be sure to check your Portable for the update.
