HTC may be preparing software updates for the Sensation which will unlock its bootloader, if a new "stock" answer from customer support representatives proves to be accurate. Several XDA forum users have reported receiving the following from HTC support reps in response to questions about the Sensation's bootloader.
"We are currently developing new bootloader unlocked software for your phone. HTC is still committed to allowing our customers to unlock the bootloaders if they wish, however we are still implementing the policy and many updates were already finalized prior to our change in policy. We apologize for the inconvenience, but be assured that we are working on a solution for our customers and our commitment has not changed. Please stay tuned to our official channels for ongoing updates on how we will be implementing this policy. Thank you for your patience."
This looks to be the first indication that certain HTC phones that ship with locked bootloaders may be officially unlocked by the manufacturer, following its recent change of heart.
As we said, this appears to be a stock response, as multiple users have received this same statement, word-for-word, from HTC support. While this is a promising development, it's probably a little early to be breaking out the bubbly -- we're not expecting an update anytime soon, and it's still not clear which other HTC phones will be joining the Sensation in having their bootloaders officially unlocked.
