HTC One M9+

Hoping for a Western release for HTC's first Quad HD phone? Don't hold your breath.

With HTC today announcing the HTC One M9+ for the Chinese market, there's been speculation as to whether the company would launch this larger version of the M9 in other territories.

HTC has poured cold water on any hopes of a wider global release for the device, however, instead restating its commitment to the regular M9 as its flagship phone for the rest of the world. The manufacturer today issued the following statement:

HTC is excited to bring the HTC One M9+ to customers in China, where we have worked closely with mobile operators to create a phone with the right balance of screen size, processor performance, software, and radio network compatibility to meet consumers' needs. Ranging in other markets will be confirmed locally at a later date. The One M9+ is not currently planned to be released in North America or Europe, where we believe our flagship HTC One M9 is the best choice for blazing fast performance, incredible sound, and network compatibility across the broadest range of operators.

So while HTC doesn't completely rule out the possibility, it seems unlikely the M9+, with its fingerprint scanner, Duo camera and higher-resolution 5.2-inch screen, will be venturing outside of Asia anytime soon.
