HTC is currently running a sweepstakes that allows residents in the U.S. a chance to win the One M9. The contest will run through March 24, 2015, and as is mandatory for all contests that are conducted in the US, the manufacturer has to mention the monetary value of the product that is being given away so that potential winners can calculate the tax they may incur. HTC has done just that, stating that the One M9 will have a retail value of $599.
Here's the legalese behind the contest that reveals the retail pricing:
One (1) HTC One (M9) phone. Actual appearance of phone may differ from device depicted. The actual value of Grand Prize is subject to price fluctuations in the consumer marketplace based on, among other things, any gap in time between the date the ARV is estimated for purposes of these Official Rules and the date the prize is awarded or redeemed. Approximate Retail Value ("ARV"): $599. Odds of winning a Prize depend on the number of eligible entries received during the Promotion Period.
The retail value figure stated above is by no means an official announcement of the pricing of the One M9 in the U.S., although Motorola's listing for the Moto 360 last year turned out to be spot on in terms of the pricing. It is a safe bet that the latest from HTC will be priced in the vicinity of $599. Either way, we'll know soon enough.
