The first rumoured details of the upcoming Galaxy Note 5 are starting to trickle out online. According to SamMobile, which has a pretty good track record on Samsung leaks, the device will feature a 5.67-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440. Unlike last year, where Samsung launched the standard Galaxy Note 4 and the curved display Note Edge, it looks like the manufacturer will stick to a flat variant in the Note series this time around. That said, Samsung may unveil the Galaxy S6 edge Plus alongside the Note 5, with the device expected to feature a dual-curve screen with the same dimensions as that of the Note 5.
Two high-end phones to lead Samsung's fall line-up.
SamMobile states that both the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge Plus will feature glass backs, much like the Galaxy S6 and the S6 edge. The Note 4 is expected to feature the Exynos 7422 SoC, an update to the Exynos 7420 with an integrated Shannon LTE modem manufactured by Samsung. The Exynos 7422 will be Samsung's first all-in-one SoC, incorporating the CPU, GPU, RAM, storage (UFS 2.0) and the LTE modem in a single package. Considering that the UFS 2.0 standard uses its own memory controller, Samsung may not provide a microSD card slot on the Note 5 or the S6 edge Plus as that would involve figuring out a way to integrate two memory controllers.
The Galaxy S6 edge Plus is rumored to feature a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 (much like the LG G4), 32GB internal storage, 16MP camera with optical image stabilization, 5MP front shooter and a 3,000mAh battery.
At this stage, details about either device are unsubstantiated rumors at best. Samsung has struggled with yields of the dual curved displays used in the Galaxy S6 edge, and the manufacturer will undoubtedly run into the same issues with a larger-screened variant. Also, it should be interesting to see if the manufacturer actually goes with the glass back on devices with 5.7 inch screens. Nothing's final until it's officially announced, of course — we'll let you know once we get more details.
What would you guys want to see in the Galaxy Note 5 and possibly the S6 edge Plus?
