Nexus 5

It's coming; here's a last-minute look at everywhere the Nexus 5 has cropped up in the past 24 hours

In case you hadn't been paying attention, there's a new Nexus phone due to arrive very soon, and this week has seen the LG-made device make its way out to all corners of the world ahead of its anticipated release. There's evidence that devices are already in the hands of carrier and retailer reps, so naturally this has led to an acceleration in the pace of online leaks. Join us after the break for a rundown of some newly-unearthed images of this still unannounced handset.

First up is an image from a Malaysian LG service center, which comes via Lin Siong Soh on Google+. Note the new-style white notification icons.

Second, an Instagram video from user djdaymos showing a preproduction Nexus 5 and a 3D render.

Next is a UK-based leak — poster Nickyyy from the Overclockers UK forum posted this (since removed) photo of a freshly-unboxed Nexus 5.

Next up is this shot, published by one Yusuf Islam on Google+, and captioned "My mate being a complete plum."

Another post from Overclockers UK, this time from poster Mr Gimp of what he says is a dummy unit

And finally a trio of shots of what seems to be a similar dummy unit from Gavin Phelan on Twitter.

That's it for now. We're expecting some form of announcement tomorrow ahead of widespread availability on Friday, so stay tuned.

First it was the 14th, 18th, and 28th. If its not out or announced by November 1st I will say F*** you Google and buy something else

An Employee at a Canadian carrier took pictures of 5 pallets of Nexus 5's in the distribution center for the carrier. If Canadian carriers have it, it's very close

For once I am excited about a Nexus launch..I have finally decided to drop my insistence on a removable battery and SD slot... Even though I am on prepaid I will learn to deal with not having all my music on a SD card...as long as I can get a 32GB Nexus 5 that is..

Same here. I've haven't been willing to get a phone w/o a SD slot until* now either. Still not happy about having to forgo that feature, but it should be worth it if the N5 has most of the features of the Moto X (I hope) with the high end specs it reportedly has. I'll live without the extra storage.

*Edited to add the word "until"

I used to insistent on SD slots and removable batteries until I switched to the Nexus 4. Truth be told, I don't miss them at all!

Just because you don't miss them doesn't means people shouldn't have those options.

1. Show me where he stated anything remotely like what you just did. He was talking purely about himself. Learn to f*cking read.
2. You saying this sage wisdom is highly ironic and hypocritical given the amount of times you've claimed not having an SD slot and removable battery are "laughable", "useless", and just all-around worthless. What a joke.

Man i was in the same boat for the longest time. Didnt care about the battery so much, but the SD slot. Finally gave in and bought a 32gb One. Although i would still prefer 64gb, i have found that 32 is fairly sufficient for music that i need to store locally. I have decent coverage too so i can get to my all access when i need as well which makes it convenient as well.

I still have my Optimus G, and I really like the G2,but since I'm prepaid too, I don't like the price. I'm interested to see how much I'd the G2 design carries over. I wish they would make a 64gb version. I need that storage space!

I also love the Optimus G Pad 8.3. LG is doing some great stuff. I prefer their hardware and software over all of the other major players.

You, my good sir, have finally gotten the point.. but yes 32GB seems to be the minimum i would go for after the Gnex's 16 GB

Shut up and take my money! Announce the blasted device already!

Posted by the man who makes things happen...

For me thats the BIG ????? we have seen the phone 6 ways from sunday. It will do nicely. Its not perfect, but it should be an awesome phone. REALLY want to know more about Kit Kat... Specifically any enhancements they made to the camera app (better post processing and such)

The unannounced product that hasn't been announced is still yet unannounced!

I dont mean to troll, its just funny that we know all about yet, yet... its still not out. I would have a good hearty laugh if Google keeps dangling it in front of us until April and then announces that it pulled off the greats April's fools ever.

Quote Djdaymos from the video "Its just a plastic dummy of a moc up.. sometimes I can spend days in a design and the model gets scrapped or changed in the last minute"

Yeah but press shots are done and it's actually been produced and shipped to retailers/carriers. We've also seen this same design right from the first leak how many months ago.

Presumably lack of interest. People tend to be far more excited over phones than 10" tablets, so less hype (unless its fruity).

Posted via Android Central App

This. I will be getting the 5 just so I can give the 4 to the missus and destroy her iPhone 4. What I really want is a 10.

Posted via Android Central App

You've said enough, for me to get excited.

I'm excited for it. I only held off on the last gen Nexus 10, because of the charging "issues" it supposedly had.

Posted via Android Central App

I was about to ask if a friend of a friend who knows a friend told you that. Then I realized who the poster was. Yeah, your word is good in my book. lol

I think I'm going to sell my buggy nexus 7 2013 for the nexus 10, I'm on my 3rd unit, 1st one was laggy when typing, the 2nd one had no issues at all but someone broke into my house and stole all my electronics and this 3rd one has multi-touch issues, I'm hoping that the quality on the 10 is better than the 7 if made buy Asus, I kinda hope it's still Samsung as the specs sound like a note 2014, no matter what tho I will have a Nexus 5, gonna have to go with the panda! Money is sat in my bank with its bags packed waiting for Google to adopt it

Posted via Android Central App

Just a warning, the N10 is a nice device, but it's a VERY different device from the 7. The 7 fits in a pocket. It feels portable, manageable. The 10 is not. Not by a long shot (compared to the 7). The 7 feels like a portable, everyday device. The 10 does not.

If Samsung made penis implants, would they have TouchWiz? - dchawk81

Yeah i know, like i say, this is my 3rd 7 2013, and i had 2 N7 2012`s, and i do like the portability of the 7 but im about ready to throw it against the wall, random wifi drops, multitouch issues and the laggy keyboard started last night, only way to stop it is by doing a factory reset every few days... no fun at all, thats why im thinking of just going for the 10 in hopes of better build quality, its either that or the new LG G Pad.... i was even considering the Kindle Fire HDX

Also my main reasoning for thining that it could be a Samsung N10 again is due to this:

Note 2014 has the same 2.3ghz Snapdragon 800, the exact same wqxga screen, 8mp shooter on the back, 3gb ram, just like the Nexus leak, i would have thought if it was in fact an Asus wouldnt it have been modeled around the new tf710 which sports the Tegra 4 and 2gb of ram and many other differences

11/5. Remember remember the fifth of November....

Ergh! Release on Friday?!?!?!?! I assume in Google Play store only?!?!? Which means wait the whole weekend without it?!?!

Please let this be available from day one on the U.K. Play Store and please have more than 50 available so they don't sell out in ten minutes.

Dear Android Central,

Can you share anything about the likelihood of the N5 being available at Amazon on launch day? Likely, unlikely? I just can't decide if I should wait for Amazon or jump at Google Play availability as soon as it's posted.

Thanks

Dan

Best Buy has the Nexus 7 2013 for the same price as the play store. Hopefully, Nexus 5 will be the same. I want as many options of getting this phone as possible.

lol its crazy how GOOGLE got everybody even without a press conference date scheduled. Nexus 4 was the best android phone i am ready for the 5 hope it comes by friday .

I think I speak for everyone when I say...... UGGHHHHHH. Replace 4 with 3 and I saw this comment verbatim a thousand times a year ago. enjoy your s4.

The logo is actually shiny on the device, so i think it is a reflection of blue. Which is why the the color is uneven.

Yes, the Nexus 4 will receive the 4.4 update. I'm curious to see if the GNex receives it.

Posted via Android Central App

Yeah, kitkat might be the last update it sees. It sucks that the CDMA versions may not see it, though.

Posted via Android Central App

I dont remember where i read it, and i have only read it once so maybe it isnt doming true, but i had read that 4.4 will actually be able to run on older hardware well thanks to blah blah blah blah (dont remember why they said it would). Fingers crossed.

Yeah, I got shafted. That'll teach me not to post links to discount iPads and jobs that pay millions of dollars a day.

My Note 3 has 4.3 the gnex is 4.2.1 if the whiners from another thread were correct. Verizon and sprint models that is

----------------------------------------------------
My S-Pen went through hell to deliver this important message to you

How's the Note 3 working out for you? If I hadn't bought the Nexus , I'd be tempted to get one.

Are you using Sprint's upgrade program? Or was that the normal 2-year upgrade?

Posted via Android Central App

Yeah, good point...I would think the Nexus5 models are fake since the previous nexus phones didn't have a number....my N4 doesn't have the 4....

I was thrown by the horizontal Nexus 5 as well until I realized it was the front of the phone, not the back. (No camera. Duh.) However, I don't think that's the boot animation (no equivalent on N4), but the plastic overwrap it ships in.

Posted via sheer force of will

N4 was announced 2 weeks prior to launch. It wouldn't surprise me if this was similar.

Posted via Android Central App

Well wouldnt the difference only be 12 hours at MOST? Or is there something different with the Euro calendar all together?

It will be funny if Friday comes and goes with nothing but silence from Google... Maybe it will drop the same day as the PS4 or Xbox One :P

Posted via Android Central App

The logo on the N7 is made out of a completely different material.

Just wondering, why would you want to paint over it anyways?

Posted from the awesome new Nexus 7

Damn. I didn't want it to go down this way. I wanted it to be announced and reviewed before becoming available. Now I'm not going to buy it on day one because I'll have to wait for reviews to see if it's a worthy upgrade from my HTC One. If it does turn out to be a good upgrade, I'll be screwed because they'll probably be sold out by then. FML

Just buy the Nexus 5. You'll be able to sell it for a premium if you don't like it for whatever reason. Methinks you'll be selling the One.

If it sells out and its not an "upgrade" then I am sure you will easily be able to turn around and sell it for a profit.

Nah just another rumour.

Theoretically it's at about the right time 12 months after N4 launch so it's as good a guess as any..OTOH complete silence from Google this close to such a big event counts against it.

Posted via Android Central App

I am guessing a certain editor around has one laying around.

Especially since he all but said 'I have one' this morning

Jerry has one. Or stole one from someone he knows. Jerry ALWAYS knows more than he let's on. Pretty sure he censored me in another thread for saying that.

If Samsung made penis implants, would they have TouchWiz? - dchawk81

If the 32GB version drops for 400$ on Google Play and Amazon, this will majorly disrupt the market of high-end unlocked phones... Fingers crossed!!

No it won't. They are footing the bill and everyone knows it. This will not inspire OEMs to give a price break

----------------------------------------------------
My S-Pen went through hell to deliver this important message to you

Ok Mercdroid. Here it is.

32gb option
2gb ram
Lte
Sprint
2600+ battery
Major camera improvements

And I change the name. I made that deali with you awhile ago sorta and can live up to it. If it comes with that weak 8gb crap again, all bets are off. I don't care if it comes to Verizon because they give Cdma a bad name....

Edit: I am still gonna rag on 1-4 though

----------------------------------------------------
My S-Pen went through hell to deliver this important message to you

Yeah but I will know it when I see it.

The interface and even the images them selves we weak on the N4. I won't hold that as the deal breaker, but there has to be some things good in there

----------------------------------------------------
My S-Pen went through hell to deliver this important message to you

In his defense, any updates to the camera will be considered major, lol.

Not that I have a problem, with the Nexus 4 camera; but, it can be improved on.

This is true

My S-Pen went through hell to deliver this important message to you

I just hope the Nexus 5 will be available to use on Sprint. I am truly considering making this my first Nexus device if it does. Scratch that, it will be my first Nexus device if it is!!

If it meets the criteria and the price is pretty cheap, I will get it as a backup for when my note 3 isn't practical.

Again as long as it comes to sprint, I wouldn't jump to crappy Tmo or expensive ATT

----------------------------------------------------

If I remember correctly, I believe it was reported to have Sprint's triband LTE radios.

I thought so too but gotta throw that in

Finally a post by Android central on nexus 5 after such a long time!!!

Good to hear it is launching tomorrow!!!!!

Posted via Android Central App

Are you kidding me? Without a doubt they have been writing about rumors for weeks now.

----------------------------------------------------
My S-Pen went through hell to deliver this important message to you

I can appreciate that Google took all this extra time to release the N5 (ok 2 weeks), in the hopes that this time they have no repeated issues like the last launch.

I'm jumping to att from verizon for this phone. I know it will work on att but does anyone know if I'll have trouble getting att to activate it on their GoPhone plans?

Too early to tell, gotta wait for the announcement I would think

----------------------------------------------------
My S-Pen went through hell to deliver this important message to you

You shouldn't have a problem. But, don't expect AT&T to give you a free sim card. If they do give you a hard time, then just try out Straight Talk: same service for $15 less per month.

Or, you could try out a Sprint mvno, if they have LTE in your area.

Posted via Android Central App

It would be great if it was available in Best Buy stores the day it goes on sale. I'd love to go into my local Best Buy and pick it up. Loved my N4, Love my GS4 GPE, but I'm ready for the N5 (and if the N10 comes out the same day then I'll have to get it to complement my N7 2013).

Okay guys, let's just pray... (Whoever you pray to Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha, or whatever, pray hard!)

November 1st the new iPads go on sale so I expect google to launch tomorrow because that would steal some thunder from that launch and possibly some sales.

But it would be nice to steal some thunder.

KitKat= Candy on Halloween... seriously no one else picked up on that when they announced the OS name?

If they don't at least announce it tomorrow, they really didn't think it through. Heck, free Android Kit Kat bar to those that make a day one purchase.

Just a lil stupid payback for every post about other phones that somebody has to mention a Nexus ....lol.. (it never fails)...just having fun calm down

@mercdroid it's competing for people money which doesn't matter what device they want. They may be able to get someone that was wanting to get a new iPad or similar tablet that has an older phone. Those folks that get a new phone every 2 years. Maybe that person says instead they can upgrade their phone to a better one. I know plenty people like that they don't get the latest and greatest phones but every 2 years, but do shell out money on their tablets because they don't have a computer or laptop. But they want a mobile tablet they can use on the go instead. A cheap phone that will get upgraded frequently like apple phones do will go a long way.

You don't use an iPad as a phone nor a Nexus 5 as a tablet, two different classes

@Brendilon I actually do, too. When I'm at home, I turn on my Bluetooth headset and use Voice and Groove IP. The voice quality is actually pretty good.

Posted via Android Central App

I see what you mean. A person might buy the Nexus 5 and hold off on upgrading their iPad. That makes sense.

I initially thought it was being implied that the Nexus 5 would be competing "directly" with the iPad.

Posted via Android Central App

nope that just doesn't surprise anyone as the NSA is in everything. They have been known to hack world leaders as well.

It's isn't hacking so much as bugging
