Telus Nexus 5

Our Canadian pals at Mobile Syrup (hi, pals!) have scored a few likely (edit: gonna downgrade this to "possible") Nexus 5 renders thanks to the carrier Telus. Revamped launcher, tweaked icons — certainly nothing we wouldn't expect in the upcoming Android 4.4 KitKit release. Nice to see it all coming together, though.

And if you look carefully, you'll note there are four full bars in the Wifi indicator, and four full bars in the cellular signal. Plus, the time is listed as 8:40. Add together all those digits and you've got 20. Plus, given that Canadians prefer 24-hour clocks to the 12-hour a.m./p.m. thing we use here in the states, it's safe to divide things in half and round up the remainder. That gives us an Official Android Central Launch Date Projection Injection of sometime in the next few weeks, give or take.

Is any one looking to buy a kidney? I need money to get this phone and I'm not willing to sell my Nexus 4

You should sell that little dog. You would be better off unless the 5 fails again

You again? I thought you passed away. My bad. Trolls never die. They just hibernate.

In the french regions, they use the 24h, but in the english regions, they use the 12h pm-am

i prefer the 24hr clock, use to bug all my friends in highschool when they had to look at my TIMEX watch for the time! and see all these numbers over 12! and freak out lol

My buddy who is a manager at Bell in Canada said he heard rumblings that the N5 might not come immediately to Rogers but Bell and Telus will have it first. He is very reliable with this stuff. Time will tell.

You crack me up Phil..

But seriously I can not wait for this... Made the move from Sprint to ATT just so that I can get the nexus

And he chose poorly

Why. There are a number of regions where AT&T has better service than Sprint. My area has fairly decent Sprint coverage, but AT&T is faster and has a better ability to stay on LTE without doing to 3G.

I may prefer the 24h system but in Canada we do use the 12 hour system primarily also there is no leading 0 so that is the 12 hour clock and AM and PM are not known. :-P

Can you post the equation on how you got the release date LOL! I seruiously can't wait to get this phone. Come on Google at least a announcement would be awesome.

I noticed that these renders aren't showing a "Messaging" app, just the Hangouts app. This, along with the changes a few days ago to the way Messaging APIs are handled, may mean we can finally receive texts with Hangouts!

Given yesterday's tease from Nestlie that hinted at 28/10 as well, this could very well be a possibility.

Not sure where you got the idea Canadians prefer the 24 hour clock. No one here uses it - we're the same as the States.

If some how you're right about the calculations, then you are clever as hell. But it's so funny because that is more then a stretch. I think it's safe to say it'll be at the end of the month.

On another note, I am happy the icons are having their own character and much cleaner. I used to think so many icons look the same or had the same exact color scheme confusing them at a quick glance. I really want developers to be inspired and bring beauty and passion into their apps. Both for the phone and tablet.

This has to be right! This prediction is the most solid one I've heard yet! To be fair, I haven't asked my psychic yet, but I'm telling you, he's right on the money!

Bottom line.

Bring it show me something Nexus

Phil, think you might be reading too much between the lines. Us Canadians (eh) love the 12 hour clock. LOL, everyone is trying to predict the launch date of the Nexus 5, didn't the Mayans predicted the world would end and we're all still doing quite well.

I'm sure it will be great news when the device officially launches.

Not if it comes in 8 and 16 again

My biggest issue here is the waste of screen space for the navigation keys.
With all the space at the bottom of the screen they could add buttons like the galaxy s4.

Like we hate 12-hour clock in Russia:-). I think that's OK what we're hating:-)

I wish the on screen buttons could be moved to the huge black bezel at the bottom.

Looks good. I'm glad that the bezels aren't the same size. All those ugly renders of this rectangle with zero side bezel and almost zero top and bottom bezel...yuck.

Hopefully this render shows that hangouts will have been integrated with SMS finally!

Am I the only one who put SMS and phone app at the left, not the right corner:-) ?

I hope Nova Launcher is updated to this new, fresh look. I can't give up my gesture controls.

Posted via Android Central App

Me too and I think it will be updated to 4.4 look, they added all the minor tweaks of each jb launcher so shouldnt be no different and at the least am sure there will be a 4.4 theme that we can apply if at worst case it doesn't get updated but I think that is very slim chance as the Nova developer has been imo good with updates etc

I bet Google specified for the call speaker to be grey to make it easier to tell the difference between the top or bottom of the device (otherwise why not just make it black). Hopefully it is announced early next week and released shortly after, I don't think I can wait 2 weeks from announcement to release date!

There's gonna be a blue line at the bottom of the screen if gooogle decides to update gnex lol:-)

just roll your eyes and make some expression of deep disappointment like you guys usually do. Add a "not cool" if you really must.

Me likey! Me wanna buy! Me can't buy because Google didn't announce the phone! Me angry!

Phil, I have no idea who told you we Canadians prefer a 24 hour clock lol.

I would be confident in saying 98 percent prefer and go by the 12 hour clock.

I am one of them lol.

If were talking 350$ from google Im curious what telus will be selling them for on contract.

I'm due for an upgrade, if telus carried the moto x I would have already got that. But 350$ should be subsidized on a 1 year contract, not the 2 year like its 700$ cousins.

Im still planning on haggling telus to lower my monthly payments down. Since the subsidized price is built into the contract right, if they wont I'll just get the best phone they have for resale value, buy it sell it and grab the nexus of contract

Very amusing math. I'm really hoping that Telus picks this up. The Nexus 4 was a long wait for carriers to finally get it.

As for the 24 hour thing, as someone pointed out, it's not really a Canadian thing, but a European thing. Quebecers definitely have a closer tie to Europe/France and, therefore, have more widely adopted it.
