Optims 2X weather widget

Have you been looking for the sweet weather widget from the LG Optimus 2X?  I know a lot of you have, and thanks to XDA member Sony_Ericsson_X10 we now have it -- almost.  He found that the weather-only portion of the Today Briefing widget inside the Optimus 2X system dump looked exactly like the widget we all want, and it works without any elfin magic.  To take it a step further, the widget has already been edited to remove the black background if that's how you like it, so be sure to try them both.  That's the edited version you see above.

Installing needs no magic either -- just download it and install, or use the Sideload Wonder Machine.  There is one caveat, however.  The widget will take one full screen unless you use a home replacement that allows for widget resizing.  We recommend Launcher Pro or ADW Launcher pretty equally, and both will resize it just fine.  Hit the source link for the downloads. Thanks, alternatively you can download 'GO Weather' from the market which has a pretty much identical widget, and quite a nice weather app as well.

jbsyst says:

Thanks for tip. Its really cool.

hindustani8 says:

I like Go Weather. what's the battery consumption of Go Weather if refresh is set to 3 hrs?

rht_rv says:

the LG widget requires 2.2 for it to install....

hotkoko says:

Why does everyone go carry for a weather widget? Its the weather, all we have to do is look out the window. Not to mention its ALWAYS on the radio and tv every 5 minutes. JESUS CHRIST PEOPLE!!!

EvanJ18 says:

cry more.

Simer03 says:

why do you care? nobody asked u to read this article..

JazMan456 says:

@hotkoko you sound MAD! Please tell us how you really feel about the state of weather-related widgets on the Android platform!

hotkoko says:

Im not MAD at all. I just think its ridiculous that people go crazy over the dumbest things

moosc says:

To bad it doesn't auto update the weather

angel77lopez says:

Looks very nice but it is too big. It takes up the entire screen. I like to put some widgets under it but can't put anything but that widget alone. I guess you would need a launcher that allows widget resizing. I am running stock so I guess I will pass on this. Looks great though.

SteveEdson was right..."go weather" looks just like it...even better I think. It's free in the market and does not take up entire screen. It has 3 different sizes.

EvanJ18 says:

i just installed this on my Incredible. looks really good. may give my beautiful widgets a run for its money.

Simer03 says:

anyone else getting a "error 509" message when trying to click one of the download links?

Comineeyeaha says:

And both download links are down now. Anybody have either a mirror it the means to host then elsewhere?

Johnny_Mac says:

Can anyone who managed to grab the one with no background please host the file somewhere else? The source link is disabled for too much traffic. Thanks!

ricepuddin says:

Works. Thank you.

ricepuddin says:

no problem

links diggity-dead!

So wholesale copyright violation is ok now AC?

Must be convienient to have such a fluid moral code.

EvanJ18 says:

then leave. my god whats with all the babies today?

I think now would be a good time to tell me what copyright I violated.

reverepats says:

I loaded it onto my PC first and I just got a virus on my new PC. I wouldn't do it. So pissed

rht_rv says:

its an apk, those cant cause viruses from what i know of and even if it could, nobody else got viruses. it is something else that you installed....

reverepats says:

no no no.....U KNOW WHAT, AS I WENT TO xda I WANTED TO LOAD IT ONTO MY pc, AND AS I CLICKED ON THE DOWNLOAD ITS START TO INSTALLED 3 DIFFERENT PROGRAMS, AND I STARTED GETTING POP-UPS FROM THE INTERNET.....I THOUGHT I WAS GETTING BOMBED....all is good now, i just uninstalled the 3 programs did a virus scan, and it seems to be OK

uansari1 says:

Um, no. XDA is a safe site as well. Stop spamming.

I don't understand what's so great about this widget? I've seen much better looking ones from Beautiful Widgets. I think the stock HTC one is probably better, too.

EvanJ18 says:

it's something different than what you see everyday. and the 3d look is really appealing.

whippingboy says:

Go Weather Widget doesn't seem to auto update too well and it does not use geolocation- you input what city you want... does this have geolocation? IF not- then not really worth the effort.

uansari1 says:

Welcome back Jerry!

Cuz some of us dont walk around with a dark cloud over our heads.

tomh1979 says:

installs fine on my evo, but the time does not display on the flip clock.

dacp283 says:

Where the hell are you people getting that go weather looks the same ?

dominiej says:

Go Weather, from what I've been reading in the comments in the market say it's really buggy. And from the images, the clock doesn't have the 3D look like this has. It's nice on my Evo. For the one that says the clock doesn't show, that happened to me but when I put in my city, the clock began showing the time...

iridium21 says:

Whilst you've got to commend "Sony_Ericsson_X10" over on XDA for ripping this, the damn thing's 11.7Mb in size and it's just a widget!

Oh, and it's not particularly pretty either, IMHO.

lanemc says:

one without background loaded fine on my stock DX updated. background version wouldn't install. found my small central ohio town. like the widget except it shows green grass and sprong tulips .... and its a frozen tundra out there .... kinda kills it imo.

GensBB says:

Works on my D2 but would be great if it would automatically update the weather. After resizing with Beautiful Widgets it fits ok. Hope someone can fix the update........

sctwinslow says:

If I resize the widget to half screen, when I rotate the screen it cuts off the bottom of the widget

SHELDAWG#AC says:

Thanks for the widget Sony.

SHELDAWG#AC says:

I discovered if you have both downloads on your phone only one will load. You have to un-install one for the other to work, at least this worked for me when trying to try both verisions. FYI

google123 says:

Cool, I will try this out for a bit. Looks good on my Droid Pro. Been using Fancy Widget......

Johnly says:

It runs fair. I wouldn't expect it to out do BW or WB. Glad the thread cleaner came through. It works, and does give a change.

rippley05 says:

Definitely like the widget, you can even add tasks to it.

Anyone know if it eats your battery or is it fair with it?

machboy351 says:

@hotkoko
You shut your mouth when you're talking to me!

anyone else getting force closes when trying to type a location, instead of using the mobile networks to determine a location on the non background version on the Nexus One or anyone running CM7 Nightly on their phone ?

Nikkgmm says:

I'm getting an error when trying to install.
"there is a problem parsing the package"
Anyone have a solution for this?

bigragu84 says:

Has anyone found away to change when the widget updates. It apears to be always updating.

gilpdawg says:

@ben.reddicliffe Yes it does the same thing for me. Running CM7 Nightly build 21-Liberty. I really didn't like it much anyway so no loss on my end.

jrivera817 says:

I keep getting a force close when I try putting it on my home screen (evo) has anyone had that same problem and gotten it to work?

makapiapia says:

Works fine for me, MT4G.

Panick says:

Isn't this the same widget that's on the Android market as "3D Digital Weather Clock"?
