Moduul G Watch dock

Looking for a great way to charge your LG G Watch that's not boring or ugly? The standard G Watch charging base works well (we love the magnets) but it lacks in the sexy department. A lot. A small start-up from Sydney Australia aims to change that with their Indiegogo campaign for the Moduul smartwatch dock.

Built from metal and hardwood, you use a standard charging base and you can display your G Watch on your desk while it charges. It looks to be very well-built, and available in both black and white to match whichever G Watch you picked up.

The project is new, but with funding goal is only $1,500 USD so it stands a pretty good chance of happening. You can get in on the action by pledging $32.60 USD for a single "early-bird" model in either black or white.

This LG G Watch charging dock looks gorgeous

Agreed, simple and easily accessible charging makes sense.
I would not buy any smart watch that doesn't use standard micro usb.

It's certainly prettier than the original...

But it's a charger... Do we really care how it looks?

Posted via Android Central App

Looks great, but why would one buy a charging dock that looks better than the thing that it is actually charging? Not to mention, the thing it's charging is soon to be obsolete?

Obsolete how? The only known difference between the G Watch and the new crop of AW watches is that the new ones are round. Big whoop.

If you follow the general sentiment around it infact is a bigger whoop than you think

Um, no. Obsolete because LG has just reduced the price of it and announced a newer, better looking replacement with higher quality materials, to replace the bland, plain, ugly original which has been marred with comfort, charging, and corrosion issues. Its probably safe to assume that LG's new version will fix the corrosion issues and won't burn your arm or have issues charging. I'd say that's a big difference too. And certainly a big whoop indeed!

Hi NexusMan, We've now created a Moduul dock for the G Watch R!
Head to IndieGoGo and search Moduul for early bird details.

Oh, I forgot a few other things. The G Watch also lacks a heart rate monitor, wireless charging (which eliminates the need to crowd fund for a charger all together), stainless steel or leather straps, stainless steel body, gorilla glass, good battery life, great visibility outdoors, an ambient light sensor, and a larger screen. ALL differences OTHER than a "round screen." WHOOP! WHOOP! WHOOP! BIG BIG WHOOP!!!!

In reality we won't know if a few of those things are a reality.. I want to see them, but let's not go thinking it's a done deal yet

Posted via Android Central App

Only 2 of those things haven't been confirmed for the Moto 360: better battey life and outdoor visibility but people who have used it have claimed so. The others all have been confirmed.

A "better looking" model (which is totally subjective anyways) does not make the previous model obsolete, especially when they're running the exact same version of the exact same OS, with (as far as we know) the exact same internals, except for a round screen.

The G Watch is plenty comfortable, and most reviewers agree. The charging/corrosion issues are only happening to a few people who are allergic to the metal used in the charging contacts. Is it a design flaw? yes. Does it affect most users? nope.

HRM - If people want this feature, there are other AW devices that have it. Has there been any indication that the R will have it?
Wireless charging - No thanks. The G Watch charger provides the exact same experience in a smaller package (place device on charger, device starts charging). I would be pissed if I had to take a Samsung Note- sized charger with me on trips just for my watch.
Stainless Steel or leather bands - The G-watch has interchangeable bands.
Stainless steel body - G Watch had a metal body, not sure what kind. The case back is plastic, and if the R has qi charging, it'll probably have a plastic case back too.
Gorilla Glass - G Watch has it.
Good battery life - compared to what? The G-watch has the better battery life of the two AW watches currently on the market.
Great visibility outdoors - I've never had a problem reading mine. Not once.
Ambient light sensor - This would be nice, but I've found "4" to be a good all-around setting.
Larger screen - Not necessary due to the square screen. A round shape means wasted space on the sides when viewing emails and longer texts. I'm with you that the round screens look great, but we've still not seen how longer texts are going to be handled. They'll either have to chop off information near the top and bottom of the screen, or have wasted space on the sides. There's simply no other way. Until I see that, I'll reserve my excitement, and continue to enjoy my current AW device.

My post did not require a page long thesis with a play by play assessment as to whether you think each feature is a must have. My post was in direct response to your original post in which you falsely claimed "The only known difference between the G Watch and the new crop of AW watches is that the new ones are round." In my post I listed out all of the reasons as to why your statement was false.

"In my post I listed out all of the reasons as to why your statement was false."

No, you listed a bunch of features found on other devices, some of which aren't even confirmed. None of those features make the G Watch "obsolete", and some of them were features that the G Watch already has.

Are you seriously serious right now? YOU: "The only known difference between the G Watch and the new crop of AW watches is that the new ones are round." Does the G Watch have a heartrate sensor? NO. Does the G Watch have Wireless Charging? NO. Does the G Watch have an ambient light sensor? NO. Right there, AGAIN, I just listed 3 differences between the Moto 360 and the G Watch, other than "round." So, yes, I proved your statement false. Understand now?

I understand that some of the newer watches have more features. However, I still stand behind my statement that none of these features make the G Watch obsolete.

No one said those features make the watch obsolete. You seem to be confusing and combining multiple posts. I commented in 1 post: "Not to mention, the thing it's charging is soon to be obsolete?"

I later commented in a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT post, in response to you saying there are no differences between the G Watch and other devices other than "round," and listed that you were wrong, and listed out many other differences. I don't know why you are stuck on this obsolete thing and keep trying to attribute my listing of the differences as some supposed reason for it being obsolete.

And that brings us back full circle to the original argument, which is your claim that the newer watch automatically makes the original G Watch obsolete.

You probably should reference the post where i addressed that already: Um, no.

You can think what you want and continue to use your vanilla device that will be pulled from the Play Store, pulled from store shelves, recalled, and lose the attention and support from LG and won't be able to take advantage of future software updates because of hardware limitations, and you may very well continue to be happy. But to everyone else, who has moved on, it will be obsolete.

This from The Verge, who spoke directly to LG about the 2 devices:

"LG has grown rather dismissive of its first Android Wear device, the G Watch. It's now described as a reference device for the platform, and the first chance for people to experience what Android on the wrist can be like. The future of LG's wearable efforts is very much centered on today's G Watch R, which the company says will cost more than the first-gen Wear watches. That increase in price is offset by the R's improved design."

I'm looking for a nuclear powered watch....no need for chargers...nothing more accurate then atomic time...and I'm sure it will glow in the dark.....I need this

Just to check, you do know an atomic clock isn't a clock powered by nuclear energy? They run on plain old electricity, be it from nuclear, fossil fuel, solar, geothermal etc.

Hi Dreamless, Thanks for the comment.
We're working our way through the other smartwatches.
We've now created a Moduul dock for the G Watch R!
Head to IndieGoGo and search Moduul for early bird details.

While this is great, there are other smart watches including the new G Watch R. So it's irrelevant now.

I just backed my 1st Kick starter project (emberlight, worth checking out). I backed it because I believed in it. This on the other hand, not so much.

Hi Ajpri, Thanks for the comment.
While people still use and buy the G Watch, we don't believe it's obsolete just yet :)

Hi Dustinfette, We've now created a Moduul dock for the G Watch R!

More Moduuls for new watches coming soon.

You should edit the USD amount since you need to add $22 to ship outside of Australia. :) That shipping cost is honestly the only thing keeping me from backing it....

That and I would need it to work with a full metal band that doesn't unstrap.

Wood? Really? What if the wood warps (from moisture in the air, etc.)? The watch may no longer fit inside properly. Why use wood at all?

Posted via the Android Central App

Because it looks nice?

I really don't see this being an issue unless you plan on leaving it outside or in your shower or something. Craftsmen have been making intricate close tolerance objects out of wood for hundreds of years I don't see why this would suddenly be an issue now. Plus the idea seems to be to stick the charging base inside of it and leave it there. I don't see why most people would constantly be removing and reinstalling it.

They should have made it with only one "leg" (think of something that looks like a lowercase "e" when viewed from the front) to accommodate more styles of watch bands.

Done! Good Idea.. we had two prototypes made, so the comments like yours swayed us towards one leg for loop bands.
Also, We've now created a Moduul dock for the G Watch R!

I still don't understand the "white" version of the G Watch because the face is still black which defeats the purpose imo. Just get white straps for the black one and u have the same thing besides the gold trim. Off topic, I know.. *shrug*

Posted via Android Central App on The Nexus 5

wouldn't it make more sense for it to be on it's side (like the Moto 360 charger) so the bands aren't in the way?
EDIT: oh wait nvm.. unless it can auto-rotate?

Looks gorgeous and more crap to carry around if you go away from home for more than 16 hours.

Come on people wake up! They are asking you to replace superior objects like..hmm a PROPER watch with inferior items.

That is not cool. It's stupid.

Buy one and you'll end up throwing in a drawer after 2 weeks and putting your Casio or Seiko back on.

Bought my G Watch over a month ago, still wearing it, still loving the convenience. But please, continue to speak for everyone else.

They do look good. I was in until the $20 additional shipping charge. At $32, it was low enough that I wouldn't feel bad not making something similar myself.

Looks nice. Wouldn't work with the metal band on my watch though since the band doesn't actually separate.

We've addressed that now.. check it out on indiegogo.com - and search Moduul.
Your band will now fit with the Moduul :)
