Amazon's annual Prime Day is just around the corner. The special event happens each July featuring deals exclusively for Prime members, from Amazon devices to smart home products and much more. Last year's sale brought with it a nice discount on a PlayStation 4 Slim console bundle, so there's a chance you could save big on that system or the PlayStation 4 Pro during this year's Prime Day... Then again, there's also the chance we won't see a discount on them at all.

During Prime Day 2017, the PlayStation 4 Slim 500GB Uncharted Bundle's price was dropped to $230 from a regular cost of $300. Gamers were also able to grab a DualShock 4 wireless controller for just $39.99. It's likely we'll see that offer again, but based on Amazon's recent lack of availability of PlayStation 4 consoles, it's uncertain how good of a discount we'll see on a console there if one is available at all. As Thrifter's resident Playstation writer, I've noticed Amazon hasn't had a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 4 Pro console in stock for weeks now; only third-party sellers have them.

Despite Sony's Days of Play sale from June 8 to June 18 offering discounts on PlayStation hardware, games and controllers of any color, many of those discounts didn't reach Amazon even though other major retailers like Walmart and Target price-matched them. It's odd for Amazon to hold off on a price-match for such widespread discounts, so one could potentially argue they're saving their allotted stock of discounted PlayStation consoles especially for Prime Day.

Considering the recent Days of Play event dropped the Pro console down to $350, it'd be wise for Amazon to at least match that offer if it wants to keep up Prime Day appearances. It is supposed to be their own version of Black Friday in July, after all. PlayStation VR bundles also dropped in price starting at $200 and it'd be great to see a similar offer in July. If Amazon really wants to make people excited about Prime Day though, they should try and surpass these deals.

You won't actually need a paid membership to get in on all the Prime Day discounts offered next month. You can just start a free 30-day trial to take advantage of any sale which catches your eye.
