HTC Inspire 4G

It has been quite a wait for HTC Inspire 4G owners but now the time has finally arrived. Right now, you can check for system updates or head on over to the HTC support site and find the Inspire Gingerbread update readily available for download.

HTC Inspire™ 4G for AT&T Gingerbread ROM Update | 08.08.2011

Starting August 4th 2011, HTC will be rolling out a system update for the HTC Inspire 4G.

This update will only be available for AT&T HTC Inspire 4G Customers and will be sent to the device over the air. Once the release is ready, HTC Inspire 4G users will receive a notification on their device advising them of this update and provide instructions to receive and install it. Users can proactively check for this update by going to Home>Menu>Settings> AT&T Software Update > HTC Wi-Fi software update > Check now. The system update can also be downloaded below and manually applied to the device.

If you decide to update your device manually, make sure you have a back up in place. The update will delete all user information stored on the device and you'll not be able to get it back. If you need some help -- by all means, jump into the Android Central forums and ask away.

What a week! First my GTab gets Touchwhiz (yes, I meant to spell it that way!), and now my Inspire 4G gets some Gingerbread love.

Now, just update my GoogleTV, and I'll leave ya alone for a bit...

ThunderBolt next please.

dont do it if you love your rooted phone! gingerbread screwed over the evo users, so this is just a friendly warning to do your research first.

Stonecold says:

Whoa, that was quicker than expected.

"It's been quite a wait for HTC Inspire 4G owners" Really? Cappy is really waiting.

ShippsAhoy says:

What does this mean?

"The update will delete all user information stored on the device and you'll not be able to get it back."

Is this contacts, calendar, apps? What is included in "user data" that's going to be lost?

Okay, if you download this update manually, put it on the root of the SDCard directory and you go into Recovery mode and update via that method, then it deletes all your data (contacts, apps, all of it). If you update via the OTA (Over the Air Update) pushed by At&t, then you do not lose any of your data. Hope that helps.

Icarus4219 says:

Update isn't showing up for me. Just checked, and it has definitely not been installed yet (Android version 2.2.1).

ShippsAhoy says:

Updated, all my data is in tact! Sweet!

Chappie says:

Hmm. Keep checking for updates and getting nothing. Tried restarting any still notta. Maybe not fully rolled out yet? (I'm in the Philly area)

prissysox says:

It didn't show when I tapped Check for Updates however, tap HTC Wi-Fi software update. It downloaded Gingerbread to SD card Download folder

Update:AT&T just pushed the update to my phone. Installing now

Chappie says:

I did, not getting anything.

sooner4life says:

Does anyone know any other tricks to get this to push down to the device. I have clicked "HTC Wifi Software Update" a dozen time and rebooted... Still no update. I'm in Dallas, TX if that matters. Thanks.

prissysox says:

I can't seem to update via the bootloader in recovery. I've downloaded the update but haven't been able to install. Frustrating

I too have checked thru HTC WiFi software updates and says (my 2.2.1) is up to date. This is my first Android phone (I've been a bb user for yrs) so Idk the ins and outs and am not sure if there is another way to push this update thru to my phone...help

(im in chicago if that matters???)

jbrandonf says:

It's usually on a time release schedule. If you don't see it immediately it will pop up over the next couple days.

randyw says:

Nada here in Nevada on AT&T and HTC update.
Update-I got it the next day. Works great!

andyl620 says:

In Iowa, I can't get it through WiFi update, either.

Good to know I can get the ROM if I get desperate. We're sure that the WiFi version won't reformat? I have had to reset the phone twice now in trying to get the Amazon Appsore (...and I finally got it, two months late...). I'd rather not have to reinstall everything yet again if I can avoid it.

Quite a wait for inspire users.......how about us Sammy captivate diehards.......where's our love?

gary1penn says:

No update here either,,baltimore,md

kurioskurion says:

For those of you asking. The update rolls out in batches. So not everyone is downloading at the same time and crashing their servers. If you haven't gotten the update yet, check again tomorrow. Be patient. You can update manually by going to HTC's website, but you will have to backup all your content.

If you're patient for a day or two, you can check again and download OTA while on wifi!

Have fun!

spacerlot51 says:

Hey I am right there with you!! I loved my HTC until I updated my software yesterday. In fact it screwed my phone up so bad that I had to call to get a warranty phone, b/c now it shows I'm connected to the internet non-stop and actually when I checked my data usage in one day doubled my data usage! I am hoping that when I get the replacement phone that it has the old software on there, and I WILL NOT UPDATE IT AT ALL!!!

andyl620 says:

Mine showed up today (I live in Iowa). I checked manually and it let me download it. 5-10 min later, Gingerbread installed! Everything seems to run pretty well so far.

Glad this one came 2 months faster than the Third-Party Application update...

Mine showed up this morning (San Antonio, TX). As I was walking towards the garage to go to work, I decided one more time to try to get it (no WiFi where I work). It showed up, and as soon as it downloaded and requested the install, I started the car and headed to work, letting it install on the way. Sweet!

markpace says:

Update showed up last night. Installed in just a few minutes. Some cool updates. Touch People. WTF?!?! all my contacts are gone. Look in Groups, all the groups are there, all the contacts are still in the Groups, they just don't show in the contact list. So I check to be sure that it is indeed syncing with my Google Contacts. It is, but still no Contacts! This blows!

c0ldburn3r says:

Well I hard bricked my captivate two days ago, damn bootloaders. Bought the Inspire and.. WOW this phone is a heavy weight for sure. Running RumRunner now and I'm pretty sure I'm the happiest I have ever been with a phone.

I updated mine on Friday, Sunday I had the first problem. Sent a txt got a reply then could not reply back. Or text anyone. ATT did some reset all was well until Tuesday now I can't txt some people. Any ideas?

Just finished with ATT support, phone would not sync with Google.
final answer was factory reset. All seems to be working. Now I have to reset up all accounts, settings...

mcwheeler says:

got the OTA update yesterday evening, FINALY... Its 2.3.3, so not the latest build {for that I guess you have to upgrade to the upcoming Holiday]

dewmc73 says:

I got this update this morning. Ever since I get constant force closed for android.process.acore...cant find or figure out what is causing that. So my phone is pretty much useless till I get it figured out.
