Lots of variables get thrown into the mix here -- carriers, phones, ROMs -- so share your experience in the comments, and let us know if things are back up for you this morning.

Google pulls Pro-Nazi themes from Market

Kyle Gibb News Friday, 13 August 2010

Google is usually thought to have a hands-off approach to the Android Market. But we have seen a couple cases to the contrary, and there are rules that must be followed. They have typically only pulled apps that might endanger user privacy or information. However, that seems to have changed with Engadget's revelation that a Nazi...

Google pulls 'Easy Root' off Market [updated]

Andrew Melnizek Applications, News Saturday, 07 August 2010

Developer Unstable Apps just released their latest update to their 'Easy Root' application yesterday. Though, just as soon as it went up, Google quickly yanked it off the Android Market. The latest 'Easy Root' update (1.2.2), allowed owners running Froyo on the Motorola Droid, Motorola Droid X, and the Motorola Milestone to easily root their phones by a single touch of a button.

We got in contact of the developer...

Kyle Gibb Applications Sunday, 25 July 2010

Here is a quick rundown of the app's features:

Paid apps now available in South Korea

Phil Nickinson Applications, News Friday, 16 July 2010

Just like the title says, you can now purchase apps from the Android Market if you're in South Korea. (There's a larger issue of being able to purchase paid apps in every international market, but that's for another time.) Google's Tim Bray explains:

As of today, Android Market is open for business to application buyers in the Republic of Korea. We hope that this will make the outstanding Android devices now available in that...

Android Market now officially has more than 70,000 applications

Phil Nickinson Applications, News Thursday, 15 July 2010

The Android Market now has more than 70,000 applications, Google Senior VP of Product Management Jonathan Rosenberg said during Thursday's second-quarter earnings call. That's up from the 68,000 count Andy Rubin announced in June at the Motorola Droid X event, and it's a good bit lower than the 100,000 number Androlib has been throwing around. As to which is more correct? We'll go with the guys who run...

Can developers make money in the Android Market? [MobileBeat 2010]

Dieter Bohn Applications, News Tuesday, 13 July 2010

We stepped out of a killer panel Monday from MobileBeat 2010 titled "How to turn Android into a money machine," and the answer from the panel to that very question seems to be "all the little things." Is it as easy to make money on Android as it is on, say, the iPhone? The answer seems to be "no" at this point, but there's not a single killer reason that Google is lagging behind.

We are going to mash up a ton of smart insights from the panel in one big...

Phil Nickinson News Wednesday, 23 June 2010

Another little bomb dropped at the Droid X event came from Google's Andy Rubin. There are now 160,000 Android devices being activated every day -- up from the 100,000 number he gave us at Google IO in May.

And on top of that, the Android Market now officially hosts 68,000 applications (which of course includes keyboards, skins, ringtones and other thing you wouldn't consider to be apps).

HTC Legend gets an update to fix apps missing from Android Market

Phil Nickinson News Thursday, 22 April 2010

It's been a not-so-secret bug that not all apps in the Android Market have been available on all handsets. And it's been particularly egregious on the HTC Legend, with such apps as Google Goggles, Barcode Scanner and Twidroid not appearing. Turns out it's had something to do with apps that can access the phone's camera, and HTC has issued a firmware update. We've seen similar issues with the Droid Incredible...

Google removing games from Android Market in South Korea

Casey Chan News Friday, 09 April 2010

Google is reportedly pulling all of the Android games in the Android Market in South Korea because laws in South Korea mandate that all games, of any kind, be reviewed by the South Korea Gaming Board. To expect the South Korea Gaming Board to individually review the thousands of Android games available is a little unrealistic. The choice to...

Android Market gained 9,300 'apps' in March (but how many are good?)

Jared DiPane Applications, News Thursday, 08 April 2010

Before you go getting all excited about seeing that 9,300 applications were added to the Android Market last month, know this: There'es a lot of fluff in there. It is always great to see that you are able to customize applications by adding skins, but should we really count each of the dozens and dozens of skins as an application in the market? Does anyone really need that many adult-style applications? And beyond that, do we need to continue and add another application, instead of adding content to the original?

In mid-March we...

HTC Q1 profits up, beat estimates

Casey Chan News Wednesday, 07 April 2010

Is there a company that's on a hotter streak than HTC? Okay fine, maybe Apple. But for a small Taiwanese phone manufacturer to be mentioned in that same breath as the vaunted Apple? Amazing. HTC posted its 2010 Q1 earnings and they did an awesome job beating the estimates. They made $1.2 billion in Q1 revenue which is a 19 percent increase year-over-year and nearly 11 percent higher than even the most generous of estimates. HTC is quickly becoming a brand-name company and they can thank their

AT&T locks down its first Android phone, the Backflip [and so what?]

Phil Nickinson News Monday, 08 March 2010

As Android reviewers and the hacking faithful are finding out this week, the Motorola Backflip on AT&T has been locked down a bit. Namely, you can't load apps from outside of the Android market. It's not just that the option is turned off, as it is by default on most (if not all) Android phones. It's that the option isn't even there on the backflip. [via
