Sony's first Lollipop updates are starting to trickle out — how have you been getting on?
Sony's first batch of Lollipop updates landed this past week, bringing the Xperia Z2, Z3 and Z3 Compact up to Android 5.0.2. The updates have been a long time coming, arriving a couple weeks outside Sony's original target of February. Next up is Sony's late-2013 Z1 series.
The update brings a touch of Material Design to Sony's Xperia UI as part of a wide-ranging redesign. There's more color to be found throughout, new graphics for Sony's software keys — and visuals and animations draw inspiration from the look and feel of stock Android. And in our experience, Sony hasn't sacrificed performance to bring this additional visual flair to its 2014 smartphones.
The update is rolling out now in select territories including the Nordic and Baltic regions, though it's possible to manually install upgrade with the right ROM download and a bit of hackery. If you're running Lollipop on your Xperia Z2 or Z3, be sure to join the discussion in the forums and comments below. How are you liking the new-look Sony UI, and have you noticed any other big changes from the KitKat builds?
