As Facebook is trying to take on the ephemeral messaging model with Slingshot, rival Snapchat is trying to become more social and public with a new 'Our Story' feature. Seems like quite the reversal of course for both social networking heavyweights, but Snapchat is adding the Our Story feature to its self-destructing messages model for a more public and group sharing experience.
Launching at the Electric Daisy Carnival, Snapchat is debuting its new 'Our Story' feature to the iOS and Android versions of the app. Rather than sharing with single individuals, Our Story allows users to group together snaps from various attendees of an event in the same location.
"We built Our Story so that Snapchatters who are at the same event location can contribute Snaps to the same Story," Snapchat wrote in its blog. "If you can't make it to an event, watching Our Story makes you feel like you're right there! It's really easy to use."
Best part is that no app update is required to have the Our Story feature on your phone. "Our Story is already part of the application you have on your phone – there's no need to update."
Will you be sharing your party pics with fellow Snapchatters in this more open storybook or is Snapchat better off sticking to self-destructing messages?
