New T-Mobile 3G Cities!

5

The T-Mobile 3G rollout continues! The month of May has T-Mobile 3G coming to four cities. Rockford and Springfield, Illinois should already be enjoying the speed of 3G while Henderson, Nevada and Wichita Falls, Texas just needs to wait a couple days in order to experience the fast data speeds of 3G!

Like we said, slowly but surely T-Mobile is covering the nation in 3G. Hopefully, it's not so slow that 4G will already be prevalent by the time T-Mobile finishes!

Dell Demos Android 1.5 Cupcake on a Dell Mini 10 Netbook

3

We know that Dell's Mini-line of netbooks is particularly versatile in terms of the different OS's it can run. We also know that our own Android OS is also versatile in terms of the different devices it can be ported to. What we didn't know is that Dell themsevles are testing out multiple OS's--Android included--to see what works best on their netbook line. In the video above, Dell's Doug Anson shows the Dell Mini 10v running three different OS's--one of them is Android 1.5 Cupcake.

Does this mean that Android is going to pop up onto a Dell Mini? Well, nothing is for certain yet but at least you know that Dell is interested in our favorite smartphone OS. In fact, Doug Anson said that Android is a "small and snappy OS" and that it runs "fairly nicely".

We still don't know what to think of Android and netbooks. On one hand we're excited about the potential but on the other, we're not sure a non-touch based solution for Android is desirable. We're very interested in hearing what you guys think about it, so let us know in the comments!

Samsung I7500 Renamed Samsung Galaxy, Releasing in France in July

5

We always thought that the I7500 in the Samsung I7500 sounded a little too complicated for regular, consumer usage--it just had to0 many digits, didn't it? Apparently, France's Bouygues Telecom thought the same. They pulled the smart move and re-named the former Samsung I7500 as the new Samsung Galaxy. Don't worry, it still packs the same goodness as the I7500, just with a much catchier name.

And for all you French folks out there, you can expect the Samsung Galaxy to hit your country in early July. This marks the first time we've ever been jealous of the French. We kid, we kid. We like Tony Parker and french fries as much as the next guy.

HTC Magic's Camera Quality Gets Road Tested, Looks Great

4

Our friends at Android Community just took out the HTC Magic's camera for a spin and came back with some pretty darn nice looking images. The 3.2 megapixel camera on the HTC Magic has been a point of emphasis for a lot of readers and it's good to see the photo quality come to light.

The picture above was taken with a HTC Magic with no editing or post production magic. If you ask us, it looks pretty darn good. Granted the picture was taking outside in the daylight, it doesn't look like an especially sunny day (that's London for ya!) and the quality still came out nicely. Overall, we're pretty impressed with the HTC Magic's photo capabilities and can't wait to get our own hands on it.

What do you guys think of the HTC Magic's photo quality?

Archos June 11 Event Invitation Points at an Android MID Device

1

Look, we know that you can't really confirm that an Archos Android MID is going to be released on June 11th but since we've already heard reports of such device, it takes far less of a leap to believe that the Android MID by Archos is forthcoming.

Plus, the shade of green on the invitation should might as well be called Android-green, the similarity is too striking to be a coincidence right? And that faint MID-esque device in the background? We're sold! Our previous report said that the Archos Android MID device will sport a 5-inch touchscreen packaged in an ultra-thin body with hi-def video playing capabilities. It sounded sweet then and it sounds even sweeter now.

Do you guys think the Archos June 11th event is Android-focused? Or could it just be a mere coincidence?

T-Mobile Delays Android 1.5 Cupcake Update For Another Week

20

Ugh. According to the leaked schedule, today was supposed to be the first day of the Android 1.5 Cupcake Update roll out. And what do you know? T-Mobile has just announced that they're delaying the release of Android 1.5 once again! That means we'll have to wait another week before we can get our hands on Cupcake.

T-Mobile is saying that they're "finalizing the build this week to ensure optimal functionality and smooth delivery" and that they "expect all G1 customers will have the update by early June". Sigh. Talk about bungling a good thing.

We know a lot of you guys have hotly anticipated Cupcake since the G1's release--try to wait one more week for all of Cupcake's goodness, yeah?

HTC Hero's Build of Android Gets a Redesign, Looks Great -- VIDEO

13

We know that Cupcake still isn't officially here yet but we have another update of Android to wet your appetite. Haykuro from xdadevelopers managed to get a build of Android from the HTC Hero (a future Android device) and ported it over to the G1 to show off in a quick video tour.

And my, it looks GOOD. You get the same Android you've learned to love with a fresh interface that is both sleek and intuitive and some newly redesigned apps like the browser, calendar, music player, etc. It even looks a bit snappier to us. In all, we don't know if Cupcake can hold off our anticipation for the next build of Android!

Logical conclusions would lead us to believe that this is Android 2.0 Donut. Right?

Samsung I7500 Clears FCC, Coming to T-Mobile USA

1

We tried to connect the dots before but it looks like the stars are aligning for the Samsung I7500, Samsung's first Android device, to be released to T-Mobile USA. What makes us believe that? Well, the Samsung I7500 just cleared the FCC (keeper of electronic approval and leaks) with support for T-Mobile's USA 1700 MHz 3G network.

We still don't know when the Samsung I7500 is going to be released stateside but it's nice to know that it's coming. Original reports expected a fall release, hopefully Samsung can speed up the process a bit?

Who's hyped for the Samsung I7500?
