Google randomly mailing swag to book buyers?

17

Free swag is always nice, especially if it comes to you unexpectedly. Jason, one of our readers -- was taken by surprise by some free swag sent to him in the mail from Google. Being an avid Google Books user someone at Google felt Jason could likely make use of some bookmarks for any of the hard copies he may have in his collection. Pretty awesome if you ask me. Anyone else receive some of these after purchasing some Google Books? Thanks, Jason for sending these into us!

Motorola Atrix arrives on Bell tomorrow

4

No surprise here since Bell issued a press release back on March 4 announcing the release date but just in case anyone needed a reminder, Bell will be releasing the Motorola Atrix tomorrow. A three-year contract will knock the price down to $169.95 with a minimum $50 plan. Or you can buy it outright for $599.95. You can hit up the Bell website for further details. Jerry has been working on a AT&T version review so, if you're still on the fence you may wanna hold off until we get that posted up for you all. [Bell]

TELUS Froyo and Gingerbread update schedule revealed

3

The HTC Desire and Desire HD on TELUS will receive updates to Gingerbread sometime this Spring, while a TELUS-approved Froyo update for the Motorola Milestone is expected "very soon", according to information provided by the Canadian carrier to MobileSyrup. Other Android update plans include Froyo for the Samsung Galaxy Apollo, also due in Spring, and Gingerbread for the LG Shine Plus, due in early Summer. The Shine Plus will skip Froyo altogether and receive an update from Eclair straight to Gingerbread.

Gingerbread updates for the Desire series have already been confirmed for Q2 by HTC, but today's news will reassure TELUS customers that their updates won't lag too far behind the European and Asian versions. Similarly, European Milestones got their Froyo update today, so it's not too surprising to hear that a carrier-approved version isn't far behind. [MobileSyrup]

Another picture surfaces of the 'Droid 3', shows off keyboard

55

It was just earlier today that we got our first glimpse of the rumored but not-yet-announced Droid 3. It showed off just the front of the phone and was missing one of the aspects that distinguishes the Droid, Droid 2 and Droid 3 from a lot of other high-end Android phones: the keyboard.

Well, another photo has emerged on the same forum, showing the keyboard and it looks pretty slick. Keep in mind that this is all just speculation at this point, but it can keep us drooling in the meantime. What do you think of the look and keyboard? Does it entice owners of the first and second generation original Droids or other devices enough to switch? [Howard Forums]

The tablet competition... Read the Apple iPad 2 Review by TiPb!

43

Now that the iPad 2 is out, there has been a lot of back and forth about how it stacks up against the Motorola XOOM. While we've yet to do any head to head comparisons our sibling site, TiPb.com, which covers all things Apple iOS related, has broken the iPad 2 down for us from their perspective.

Quite honestly, I'm a fair gamer when it comes to tablets. Full disclosure -- while I would love to have a Motorola XOOM, no retailer in Canada currently has them so I did purchase a White 32GB WiFi iPad 2 for myself. As soon as a WiFi XOOM becomes available, I'll be grabbing one of those as well.

Considering we posted up our Motorola XOOM review today, if you were looking to compare the two now would be a good time to head on over to TiPb and get a good feeling for the iPad 2. I'm sure they would love some comments from some Android users that offer up a friendly contrast -- or just share with them why you chose a XOOM over an iPad 2. [TiPB]

LG Revolution system dump has Netflix

40

Although the LG Revolution was announced quite a while ago now, there is still no sign of it being launched. No matter -- we all have the HTC Thunderbolt to hold us over but that doesn't mean the LG Revolution news has to stop. For those of you who like to dig through system dumps you'll find the LG Revolution to contain some interesting items. Although I'm sure most of you out there will only be concerned with one -- Netflix.

Yes, if you dig deep enough into the system dump you'll find there is a Netflix install file in there. We knew it was going to be loaded, as we've seen it in the past but the system dump turning up was a surprise. We've not put it to the test but I was however able to log in just fine. That said, if you do get it working let us know in the comments. [AndroidSpin]

HTC Thunderbolt user manual now online

14

We know you won't stop to look at it this coming Thursday when you rip the box apart on your new HTC Thunderbolt, so here's where you can read the Tbolt's user manual online -- while you're waiting for them to hit the shelves.  It's mostly basic stuff that you veterans already know, but if this is your first foray into the world of Android you really should spend a few minutes and have a look.  Check it out at the source link, and if you have any questions or just want to talk about it, get into the Thunderbolt forums! (.pdf warning) [Verizon] Thanks, Steven!

Wunderlist for Android - Sync your tasks on the go!

10

Wunderlist has finally made its way to the Android Market. Great timing as well, since they have just surpassed 1 Million downloads. If you're unfamiliar with Wunderlist, it's a personal task manager application that is available for Windows and Mac users that lets you synchronize all of your tasks from your home computer to your mobile device or vice versa. While the idea itself is rather simple, it's the simplicity of it all that makes it my preferred task manager application.

You just simply fill in what your task is, when you need it completed by and that's it! If you wish to go further with it, Wunderlist also allows you to sort your to-do's by date, mark completed and even "star" special events that you need reminding of-- and of course, once completed you can check them off as such as well. Toss in some added cool stuff like customizable backgrounds and a web accessible version and you have a pretty complete tool at your disposal.

If you need to maintain a to-do list or task manager give Wunderlist a look. Again, the simplicity of it when added with the extra functions makes it a great overall application. Wunderlist is available for free from the Android Market and the desktop versions can be downloaded from their website. Jump on past the break for the Android app link to get started.
