Xperia Invite'A big surprise' promised for July 4 event in Paris

All the pieces are starting to fall into place for the announcement of Sony's 6-inch Android device, codenamed "Togari." The phone, which is variously rumored to come to market as either "Xperia ZU" or "Xperia Z Ultra" cropped up late last week in a kitten-centric blurry-cam shot. And today Sony itself has given away a glimpse of the device's side, in an invite sent out to French press.

The invite for an event in Paris on July 4 shows what looks like the right edge of the device. There's Sony's trademark rounded power button, a volume rocker, and what seems to be a dedicated camera key. In addition, there's an exposed headphones jack up top, suggesting the "Togari" might not boast the same water-resistance credentials as its 5-inch sibling, the Xperia Z. Besides that, Sony Mobile promises attendees "une surprise de taille" -- a big surprise.  A 6-inch phone would certainly fit that bill.

If the rumors are accurate, the Xperia Z Ultra -- or whatever it's called -- will go up against Samsung's Galaxy Mega, as well as HTC's rumored "T6", also said to be a 6-inch handset. Rumored specs for Sony's 6-incher include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU, 2GB of RAM, a 6.44-inch 1080p "Triluminous" display, an 8-megapixel camera and a thickness of just 6.5mm.

With a similar event scheduled for Germany for June 25, it looks like we won't have long to wait to find out exactly what Sony's bringing to the table.

6-plus-inch Sony Xperia device teased in event invite

i just couldnt fit that into my normal sized pockets- so whats the point? its not even phablet category, this sits firmly in the tablet category. and once its there, id rather go bigger than 6 inches. thats what she said also. ;)

Maybe my pockets are giant or your pockets are tiny, but I can fits a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.0 7" in my front jeans pocket well enough to walk around with it in there (sitting wouldn't be overly comfy, but walking around is no issue), so I imagine a 6" phone will fit just fine. Now, I know women's pants usually have smaller pockets than men's pants, so there is that issue, and people who wear tight/skinny jeans will have issue, but for people who wear either regular or loose fit pants or carry a bag and/or purse with them (most people fit into one of those two categories), I don't see carrying it being a huge issue.

I'm 6'2 my galaxy Nexus is tiny in my hands, a 6 inch device would be perfect, I love large screens because I like to stream media and watch vids on my phone, and it makes games more fun. Just hope Sony will start updating their devices in a timely matter, thats why i won't buy one again, plus I had a bad experience with one of their devices in the past, but I know they are built better now.

Here's the point xxxooo3o37 niner, Sony, Samsung, and HTC aren't all sitting around the design table saying I want to design this nice phone but let's see what xxxxxooo3o7 thinks first. That's the point.

S4 Active has an uncovered headphone jack...maybe Sony has opted for that here also.

If it comes with a built in stylus like the SG Note, I may consider it. The picture suggests it might.

This could be interesting but an 8mp camera on a high end device in 2013 is kind of disappointing really. I think I'll hold out for the Note 3.

Some leaker claims no pen. So why tease with a pen in the invite? Would be disappointing and not very compelling for me without.

It looks rather gorgeous. If the "save the date" info is actually a great indication of what the screen will look like. Oh my.
