Verizon Samsung Fascinate

It's that time, folks. The Verizon Samsung Fascinate is now available online for $199.99 after two-year contract and mail-in rebate. You're still going to have to wait a day before it's in stores (or for them to ship it to you, for that matter). But what's a few more hours, right? [Verizon] Thanks, Kyle!

Oh, yeah. And it's buy-one-get-one. But you already knew that, right?

Woot! Just ordered mine. I had problems ordering though VZ's site, it wasn't giving me my upgrade discount, so I called VZ and their going to credit my account the discount. Now all is I a root & 2.2 to get this phone running like an Android should.

Hmmm ill have to do the same. I noticed that too. Ill be calling vzw in the am for my $50 back!

Samsung, and some others are getting out of hand with the naming of phones. Fascinate? I wouldn't buy it just for the name alone. Vibrant and Captivate are just as bad. Even though I'm not fond of horizontal sliders, at least the Sprint version got a decent name. The vzw version of sgs lioks the best, but has the worst name. I'm still glad that the supersonic name was not used for the EVO.

moises1204 says:

my friend you got some issues.

mannypelo says:

i think so too. there is nothing wrong with any of the names on the new phones. i mean look and the names out there now incredible, evo, droid.

DolfanCole says:

I don't care for the name either, but it has no bearing on why I would or would not buy the phone. Why not just call it a Galaxy S phone?

raam89 says:

bing as default search engine! thats ridiculous. Are you kidding samsung/verizon ?! I got a chance to take a look at this phone a couple of days ago in verizon store. I could not find any of the google services in the phone. Not even google maps!
I know you can downlaod evthing from market. But still, crippling the phone like this is simply stupid. And remember all these bloatware would be running in the background all the time. rooting is the only solution.
Moreover the first thing I checked was the gps. I took the verizon store rep with me outside the store with droid 2 and fascinate, opened gps test on both and droid 2 immediately finds 8 satellites and locks on all of them. Poor fascinate sees 4 but locks on none. Remember first line of SGS was released in june and there is no fix for it yet. That leaves me more skeptical aboout samsung fixing gps issue properly. I mean for all we know it could be a hardware issue!
I was one of the earliest adopters of SGS devices in the US. I bought the vibrant when it was released and eventually returned it.

Bing on most VZW phones is part of the multi-million dollar deal that was made with Micro$oft. Big Red was paid to force Bing as the only search engine from their BlackBerries' browser "Go To" page, so it doesn't surprise me that they're pushing it on Android phones. However, this is upsetting enough that I'm actually hesitant to order a demo Fascinate through our company account. Major fail, Verizon. Major fail. I'm glad they didn't do this with the Incredible's Froyo update.

I think I'm going to just wait and see what's in store for the holidays or next year. My Incredible is getting by just fine without Bing and a 4" super AMOLED screen. Although, I would love to have the latter.

...The heck with it, I'm ordering one (Fascinate) anyway. Maybe I'll like it enough to root it and remove all the VZW BS that I don't want. If I don't like it, I have 30 days to return it. :-)

This is the first android that forces that choice. Its silly and counter productive, and it takes a BOGO to get people to swallow that. This says they knew it going in.

This is the annoying breakage that keeps me from ever considering verizon, (Well that and its CDMA which means I can't even check the email orders my customer sends me while I'm talking to them on the phone).

FAIL.

I do have to agree with everone else on the bing thing. i dont like bing and it shouldn't be on a android phone that is ran by google. Dont get me wrong im still getting the phone and will try to make the best out of the situation with bing. i might not like it now but ill give it a try. And if people dont like it all you have to do is not add it on your phone and make a shortcut to google on the screen there you go. Wait for Froyo to come out and everything will be all good. Or you can just root your phone have fun

Very unfortunate.

If you use promo code FREEOVERNT when checking out, you get free overnight shipping from vzw.com, just for those that missed it on their site.

Why is it Verizon has enough foresight to make available the desktop cradle and other carriers don't? The cradle is one of the things that drew me to the Vibrant and it's not available on either the T-Mobile or Samsung site! Booooo T-Mobile! Boooo Samsung! And Boo AT&T and Sprint just because I don't like them! LOL!

icebike says:

Cradle is ordered by a tiny percentage of users, and the cradle came out AFTER the phones were already launched. This is Verizon's one benefit from being late to the Samsung party.

Besides, Who in their right mind would order a cradle from their carrier and pay that kind of markup.

Even the lame bing search engine will find it cheaper for you.

rhon228#AC says:

Naw! Can't even find it on Bing! LOL

Pure87 says:

Too bad the Fascinate is like the dumber youunger sibling to the rest of the Galaxy S line. You would think with the long wait that the vzw would come out with a lot of great additional features, instead its weighed down by Bing, which makes absolutely no sense on Android.

Mtnraider says:

Why so much hate about this handset? I have been looking forward to this for months now, seems even Phil even loves these phones. I have been mulling over and over what one to choose, Droid X VS. Fascinate. I at least owe it to the Samsung to give it a whirl.

PS is the GPS as janky as people say?

icebike says:

No hate for the hanset, just displeasure over Verizon's rape of it.

PS: using Hate in a sentence like you just did makes you look 14 years old.

jimmyk0789 says:

Stop f×××kin complaining about Bing its actually pretty good if u haven't tried in the market and if u don't like it don't use the widgets and download all the Google stuff in the market there's search maps and everything else Google and another thing if ur to lazy to download the apps buy a different phone for gods sakes thnak you and have a nice day

jimmyk0789 says:

I forgot to add once root becomes available for this phone u can delete those apps

retail $579 wtf!!!!!

derpudel says:

Not even tempted.

TheBronze says:

Me neither. My captivate will do just fine. ;)

They are going BOGO from day -1? Is this a sign that there is more coming sooner rather than later?

jokerls240 says:

Just the usual Verizon marketing. They did this with the BB Storm (not at launch), Storm 2 (at launch), and some Android phones when they launched. It's all about getting new customers.

On another note, I've realized my Bing rant was a bit rash, and placed an order for 1 Fascinate around 2:30AM local. I also just got an Epic in today for one of our users, and I'm already craving the Fascinate (personal line)!

At least Sammy built both desk and car docks for this, unlike HTC's product line. I miss having these when I had the Droid.

tylavin says:

Just ordered mine this morning, no problems here.....got all the discounts including my NE2. Cant wait to play with it..(in a non freakish way of course!)

mannypelo says:
