EA releases Worms for Android

43

EA Games has released its classic turn-based blaster Worms on the Android Market. The publisher says that Worms' graphics and animations have been optimized for the Android platform, and our initial impressions of the game are that it seems to be up there with recent Worms console titles in terms of graphical fidelity.

Worms for Android offers a host of game modes from previous Worms games including puzzle, racing and banzai. The characteristic voice acting that fans of the series will recognize is also present and correct.

A QR code for the North American version can be found after the jump. European readers can find it by searching for "Worms" in the Android Market.

Verizon changing smartphone rebate plan -- by getting rid of them

33

Some interesting news out of Verizon this morning -- there's going to be a significant shift in how rebates are handled. As you can see above, smartphones that have a net price of $150 or higher will have no rebates. Smartphones with a net price of $149.99 and under will have $50 rebates.

Now before anybody freaks out, we're told all that means is that it'll be treated more like an instant rebate. The up-front cost of the phone will still be cheaper, but the overall price of the phone won't really change.

And, yes, we're more than happy to blame the upcoming Verizon iPhone for this, good or bad. Thanks, anon!

Beautiful Widgets sees significant update

30

Beautiful Widgets, the popular clock and weather app from Level Up Studios, saw a significant update this morning to version 3.3.  This update brought several welcome changes, including the new "Super Clock" widgets.  Besides for the obvious new look, these widgets are hi-res, allowing them to be scaled without quality loss.  You can also swap out the weather icon with one that shows you your battery status, or choose from one of the new clock only widgets if you only care about the time.

Beautiful Widgets was one of my first app downloads when I got my Droid over a year ago, and I've loved using it ever since.  Full changelog, market link, and two more screenshots after the break.

Costco sets Motorola Atrix 4G at $150

15

Looks like that $149.99 price point for the Motorola Atrix 4G might hold up, as Costco has entered its initial price on the upcoming AT&T phone. Whether that's in reaction to Amazon's brief listing is anyone's guess, and it's possible that this could still change. But for a phone with as much potential as the Atrix 4G (check out our hands-on at CES), that's a very affordable subsidized price. Thanks to you know who!

Bluegrass Cellular gets Samsung Gem for a mere $59 on contract

5

Been wondering where the Samsung Gem is headed? Wonder no more, as it's appeared on regional carrier Bluegrass Cellular for the low, low price of $59 on contract. But for our money, we'd just buy this sucker at its outright price of $205 and skip the mess of contracts. That said, you're getting an entry-level Android phone, with Android 2.1, a 3.2MP camera and 3.2-inch touchscreen, all powered by an 800MHz processor. So it'll get the job done, but likely not win any awards doing it. One more pic after the break. [BluegrassThanks, @ibegary!

Fix for Nexus S rebooting coming 'within one to two weeks,' Googler says

15

You know that rebooting problem that's been plaguing the Samsung Nexus S since its launch? Sounds like Google's just about got it nipped in the bud, and a fix should ship in the next week or two. Googler Ry Guy posts as such in Google support forums:

The initial results of our tests look very promising. At this rate we will most likely be rolling out an OTA to resolve this issue within one to two weeks. We really appreciate your patience as we do our final verifications on this fix before sending it out.

Do us a favor though -- if it takes Google 15 or 16 days to get this pushed, try not to threaten anyone with a class-action lawsuit, m'kay? [Google Support Forums via Android Central Forums] Thanks, Grimmy!

Edited to correct that Ry Guy and Google's Romain Guy are not the same person.

AT&T's Motorola Atrix 4G, HTC Inspire 4G briefly listed on Amazon, then pulled

8

AT&T has yet to set a launch date or price for the Motorola Atrix 4G and HTC Inspire 4G, but Amazon isn't shacked to such trivial matters. The upcoming phones were briefly listed on the online retailer tonight but have since been pulled. the Atrix was listed at $149.99, and the 4.3-inch Inspire at $99. While Amazon often undercuts the carriers, there's not telling at this point whether those prices will be what we actually see once the pages return. And so, we wait once more. [Amazon: Atrix, Inspire] Thanks to everyone who sent these in!
