Honeycomb on Nook Color updated with major fixes

19

If you were holding off on the Honeycomb port for Nook Color because some pretty major features like sound and SD card storage weren't working, then it might be time to start downloading.  The SD card image (from developer deeper-blue) has been updated after only a day to take care of both of those issues.

At this point, the most glaring omission is root access, but considering we've gone from Google releasing their Honeycomb SDK preview to having a ROM that's pretty much ready for daily use in less than a week is quite a testament to this mysterious developer from Chicago.

Head on over to our How-To thread in the forums for the download and all the details--then follow along at home on our live blog of Google's "introduction" to Honeycomb today.  [xda-developers]

LG hypes Optimus 3D (or something else): Something bigger is coming on your way

8

LG has confirmed that we'll see the Optimus 3D at Mobile World Congress in just a couple short weeks (we'll be there, by the way), and now they're ramping up the hype with a teaser video.

"Something bigger is coming on your way" may be prepositionally challenged, but there's no shortage of bombast. Clearly LG has quite a few eggs in whatever basket it's bringing to Barcelona. Check it out after the break. [via @LGmobileMWC]

T-Mobile drops LG G-slate details -- Honeycomb, 8.9-inch screen, 3D graphics

17

At long last, after the tease at CES, T-Mobile has finally given details on its Android tablet -- the LG G-Slate. And we're simultaneously scratching our heads and dying to get our hands on this thing. Let's dive into the bullet points.

  • 8.9-inch "3D-capable multitouch display" -- with the aid of 3D glasses
  • Android 3.0 Honeycomb
  • Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor
  • Rear-facing stereoscopic video recorder, records at 1080p
  • 5MP camera with LED flash
  • 720p playback on the tablet, 1080p via HDMI output
  • 32GB of internal memory
  • Internal gyroscope, accelerometer
  • T-Mobile HSPA+ data, plus Wifi

That definitely sounds like quite the beast. We're going to withhold judgment on the whole 3D screen and video recording thing (and we might well get a look at both during Google's Honeycomb event). We just have to hope that it's better than what we saw from the Sharp Galapogos at CES -- and even then we might still need some convincing.

No word yet on official pricing and availability, though March 23 has been rumored. Check out the full presser after the break. [T-Mobile G-Slate product page]

Samsung bringing a portrait QWERTY to Sprint?

18

It looks like Sprint and Samsung have been working together to bring a portrait QWERTY Android phone, and have at least got to the prototype stage.  Not much information about this one is known, but Pocketnow got their hands on a few photos that shows a Droid Pro-esque phone, and it's clearly (as clear as blurrycam can ever be) running Android.

Could this be part of Sprint's Magical event next week, or something we'll see at Mobile World Congress?  Or is this just a one-off for now?  And maybe most importantly, will it be called the BlackJack S?  We'll keep you posted as we know more.  [PocketNow]

Android Market having a hiccup

23

It's not just you -- the Android Market seems to be stalled.  We're getting reports of users unable to download, and it's pretty widespread.  We have no idea if this has something to do with changes surrounding tomorrow's Honeycomb event in San Jose, but we'll know the answer to that one soon enough, join us while we live blog it from the floor.

For now though, it doesn't look like you're going to have much luck until somebody gets a new hampster to run the wheel. [Android Central forums] Thanks Christopher!

Verizon sending text messages in regards to DL09 emergency calling bug

13

Remember that bug in the DL09 maintenance update which broke emergency calling for some of you? Just a week separated from Samsung officially acknowledging the issue, Verizon is now sending text messages out to Fascinate owners addressing the issue.

Free VZW Msg(s) - Use of your emergency call button on your Fascinate phone with software SCH-i500.DL09 may not work while the phone is locked. A software fix will be pushed to your device soon. Until available, disable pattern lock to ensure emergency calls can be placed. To check your software version press Applications>Settings>About phone and view Build number. Only version SCHi-500.DL09 is impacted by this issue. Versions SCH-i500.DI01 and SCH-i500.DH12 are functioning properly. To disable pattern lock press Applications>Settings>Location & Security and remove check from Require Pattern.

So it appears Verizon has another maintenance update ready to go to fix the issue. We applaud Verizon and Samsung for addressing it so quickly, so keep your eyes open. Or, you could always just check out that shiny new Froyo leak. [Android Central Forums]
