In Short

The Moto Z2 Play is the follow-up to the Moto Z Play, which was released in September 2016 on Verizon and in October as a GSM unlocked unit.

The Moto Z2 Play follows in that handset's proverbial footsteps, maintaining the Moto Mods compatibility of the Moto Z while slimming down to make it more attractive to the average consumer. It's also going to be available first on Verizon, starting in July 2017, followed up by a $499 unlocked model sold directly from Motorola later in the summer of 2017.
