The Moto X Play was announced on July 28, 2015 at concurrent Motorola events in New York City and London. Launching alongside the Moto X Style, the Moto X Play is a step down in terms of specs but keeps many of the same features of the higher-end device.
The Moto X Play features a a 5.5-inch 1080p screen, snapdragon 615 octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM and a 3630 mAh battery, which is more than enough to address concerns of poor battery life on the Moto X 2014. There is also a rear-facing 21MP camera and a 5MP on the front.
You'll still have the option to customize the phone with Moto Maker just like the other model, and it comes in a few standard color schemes if you just want to get one off the shelf instead.
The Moto X Play was made available in August 2015, slotting in price-wise underneath the Moto X Style. The Moto X Play is available in various countries around the world, though it won't be coming to the U.S. — Motorola is focusing on the Moto X Pure Edition there.
