Verizon is now pushing an update to the Nexus 7 which brings Android 5.1.1 to the tablet, along with a patch for the Stagefright exploit. The update brings a number of changes to the appearance and interaction on the tablet, as well as some behind the scenes changes. Some of these features include battery saver to keep your tablet running longer as well as security patches.

The update is rolling out now, and if you have yet to receive the notification you can check manually for it. Head into your tablets Settings and then check for it. If you have already received it, be sure to let us know how the update is working out for you.
