Verizon Moto X getting Android 4.4.2 update today

Yesterday's soak test be damned, Verizon's pushing out Android 4.4.2 KitKat for the Moto X today. This brings the Verizon Moto X right up to date with the latest version of Android, inline with the rest of the Moto X family, the HTC One (for some carriers), Google Play Edition devices , and Nexus devices. This is also ahead of Samsung, who has committed to updating an array of devices from the past two years to 4.4.2, but provided no timeframe for those updates.

The update to Android 4.4.2 brings relatively minor improvements to the Moto X, including improved 3G and 4G data stability and bug fixes related to call volume and MMS. The camera software has also been improved with better sky detection and auto-HDR.

Got Android 4.4.2 on your Moto X? Let us know how it's treating you.

Att got it already I thought...

Actually, they didn't.

popezaphod says:

Not seeing it here in the boonies.

Nothing yet up in Boston

NoNexus says:

I am so happy to see this device go from such a shit os like 4.4 to 4.4.2 that I might just cry.

You guys are gonna see all the puppies, sunshine and rainbows and are going to be stunned. Just stunned.

I cannot believe that you all had to wait until the Note 3 got it on Sprint before you could get some love. I am not even gonna mention that you had to wait so long. Quite frankly, I am surprised that you survived. I would have went to iPhone long ago. That or webOS. Tough call.

Obviously sarcasm.

Kit Kat tastes like Jellybeans. Can't tell them apart...

jlczl says:

Your posts have gotten much more sarcastic recently. Since you don't have a Motorola it may be lost on you that this update actually is necessary for those who lost a couple of key features with the last update. It is actually an update many have a good reason to be anxious for.

NoNexus says:

Just today, in a mood.

The point of the post wasn't anything directed towards the update itself, but the 'about time the update came' people. I am not denying the update is good or needed, just that it is NOT late to the party

Wait......you have it on sprint? How is it different than 4.3? Excellent post too

NoNexus says:

I flashed it a week ago or so. It really is not that much different, maybe a bit faster/smoother but really 4.4.X is not a huge upgrade over 4.3. The Note either did not suffer from the issues that the Moto X and Nexus had or I just have not run into them.

I think with 4.4.X the biggest difference is ART but Samsung and HTC has not really found out how to do it and retain the features of Sense/TW

What am I supposed to be anxious for?
I have no issues with mine.

I hope the AT&T update comes soon. I'm tired of the Android OS bug.

Zig261 says:

At least Verizon wasn't last to get it. But i still don't see the update yet.

Really? Do you guys know something the rest of us don't. No one seems to have it yet. It was days after the soak invites until it rolled out, last time. There's more to an update rollout than the changelog. Sources?

droidman2177 says:

Have to agree ......so far I see noone getting it here. ANYONE?

jcg5862 says:

Nothing yet in east central IL. No hurry though, all systems nominal.

Has anyone actually gotten the update? I feel like Verizon has just posted the change log but hasn't started pushing it out

Just going to wait and see if Verizon has found another way to shutdown tethering for people with Unlimited Data.

lakedubvt says:

What are you using now? On 4.4 Foxfi is no longer working for me

udazavlanje says:

Same here.
Btw, Did you try to tether via Bluetooth? Fox fi seems to be OK but Nexus 7 won't connect in it's settings - "use for internet access".

How are you doing WiFi tethering on 4.4? I can only get USB to work?

jlgraham says:

Camera already has Auto HDR, though it never works for me. Only switches to HDR if I select it manually, so hopefully that is fixed.

cboekhoven says:

My X is currently downloading an update. I got a soak test invite so this may just be the soak. Will update when installed

lies! still waiting for update :)

xeroslash says:

No update here. Did someone say they got it or is this all speculation from the pdf being uploaded?

cboekhoven says:

I have it. I also just got the link to the soak test discussion private thread. I believe Verizon isn't skipping the soak test at all. I tipped A.C. about it. This is not a full blown OTA update. But soak test updates are on their way. Some small visual changes eliminating a bit of blue and adding a bit of white/gray. Exchange seems fixed. Still really early in my update for more

cboekhoven says:

It's not actually being pushed OTA... Just soak tests are being sent out. Official release should be in a week or two. potentially sooner.

snoking says:

Well, I got it this morning OTA, not a soak test person. It just started downloading! I am registered with Motorola support and forum.

hirshey21 says:

If you go to the moto forums you can find a VERY EASY step by step to install the update to 4.4.2.
Honestly, I don't notice any differences worth the trouble so far.
Don't get too excited. :(

I got this to work too. The instructions were clear, except that its best to put the file in the root of the SD Card.

Has anybody figured out how to text in the car using Bluetooth? I can only make the Moto X work for texts if I use a hands free device. I think I looked through all the settings in my car and on the phone.

Will be interesting to see if this new update really extends battery life.

Woke up this morning to see it was ready to install on my Verizon Moto X. Everything went well.
