Xperia S

Android 4.1.2 firmware shows up on certification forum, release could be days away

As tends to happen with upcoming Sony firmware, the official Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update for the Sony Xperia S (LT26i) has appeared on the website of the PTCRB, the North American wireless device certification forum. It's also joined by official Jelly Bean firmware for the Japan-centric Xperia Acro S and the Xperia SL, an upgraded variant of the S with a higher-clocked CPU.

With the firmware for these devices being certified, it's likely a matter of days or weeks until the update starts hitting handsets. It's been some six months since Sony announced that the Xperia S would be getting Jelly Bean, and almost a year since we first laid eyes on Android 4.1. So to say it's about time Xperia S owners got their Jelly Bean update might be something of an understatement. Fingers crossed for a OTA roll-out before the end of the month.

@Alex Dobie

Thanks for the interesting post.

At last Sony is going to update some of their smartphone. If they really want to do smartphone business then they should care of their customer and of course they should give their smartphone devices update as much as possible.

Thanks in Advance

It's been some six months since Sony announced that the Xperia S would be getting Jelly Bean, and almost a year since we first laid eyes on Android 4.1. So to say it's about time Xperia S owners got their Jelly Bean update might be something of an understatement. :-(

Android 4.1.2 on Sony Acro S...problems...various problems with android4.1.2 in australia on Sony Acro s...It has slowed down camera from lock screen opening speed. Was the fastest openening camera.. Not now..

Also the video feature on camera faults every time and can't use video camera..

Also the weather app doesn't work any more.

Another bigger problem is google voice search doesn't work any more on google app, youtube app or gps navigation which makes it dangerous to use when driving...have to stop to type in search.

The battery drain is faster. When charging over night, it fully charges the starts draining battery so you could wake up with only an 85% charge..not good..

We need another update and we need it fast sony..This is rediculous.

I wanted a good Japanese phone with good features and it was until this android version update turned it into a fault filled piece of crap..please rectify soon...the android version would be OK if everything worked properly but it doesn't...2 other people at my work with the same problems
