Motorola Droid RAZR HD Dock

Here's a quick look at the HD Dock for the Motorola Droid RAZR. It's a simple enough accessory -- you plug in the phone and dock mode launches. It's got a trio of modes -- music, office and bedside (though we'd argue you could easily combine music and bedside if you play your cards right).

Just like with the car dock, the HD dock presents big, bold graphics that are intuitive and easy to hit when you're fumbling around in the middle of the night, or after a 3 p.m. highball in the boardroom.

It's also got a bevy a USB ports in the back along with HDMI out should you want to take advantage of the Webtop capability and run a full version of Firefox from the phone instead of using a real laptop or desktop computer at your desk. There's also a 3.5 mm jack for audio out.

Our only real niggle here is that unsightly bulge that sticks out, but that's what you get when the ports are on the top of the phone. If you can overlook that, you've got yourself a fine-looking dock here. We've got more pics after the break.

I'm sure I missed this discussed somewhere but . . . why on earth move the ports from the side (a la DroidX & other Moto phones) to the top??? Doesn't seem practical at all -- though maybe I'm missing something obvious?

It might be ugly but I will take the charging port at the top or bottom any day versus the sides. With my Droid X, Droid Charge and HTC Thunderbolt among other tablets it makes it impossible to turn the screen in portrait mode and watch a movie or do anything while set on a desk. With the Thuderbolt and the kickstand it makes it almost laughable to set it up on its side because the phone drains so fast. The same thing happens to the Xoom and Samsung Galaxy 10.1 tablet when paired with the portfolio cases. The charger always seems to end up on the bottom so you cant charge even when you have the opportunity.

Price? Availability? Coming from the Droid Incredible, I'm glad I finally get some accessories with the phone. Instead of some cheap chinese dock from ebay.

The more I look at this phone the more hideous it looks to me. I am sorry but they could done a far better job on the design of this thing.

Can you please confirm if there is a USB input so that you can connect this to a computer to sync and charge the phone? It doesn't appear that it does which seems like an oversight. There would be times I would like to use a dock hooked up to my computer.

Why when you've got the AC power plug sticking out of the back there? If you've got it at you're computer desk then surely you have a power outlet. But also with the USB ports on the back, I would think you could use those to sync to a PC.

II like it. The cell radio on a Motorola are usually very good, like that. The ony thing I am very curious about is the closed up battery. Is it going to last a full day? My Thunderbolt does with the big battery and of course S-Off, rooted and running KillaSense, Bamf, CM7 and many more. Not to mention the Tethering ability is killer. Oh did I mention here in Boston area the LTE is sick fast. It Is.
