Motorola Atrix HD

Mark it, Dude. The AT&T this morning announced that the Motorola Atrix HD is getting an update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean starting today. That means you get cool things like Google Now, that Project Butter smoothness, plus all the other bells and whistles AT&T and Motorola have added in.

You can get the update now by going to Settings>About Phone>Software updates. And we suggest you do.

Motorola Atrix HD gets Jelly Bean

Should be good for the people that have that phone. The new Motorola is making people look towards them for future phones. I like the direction they are heading.

Wait, what? Is this the same "new Motorola" that reneges on their promises to keep phones up to date?

You mean phones made by the old Motorola like the Photon 4G and Atrix 4G? Anything released before the Droid RAZR M/HD/MAXX HD is from the old Motorola and doesn't count anymore. Atrix HD owners got lucky; let's hope Photon Q 4G LTE owners get the same treatment.

Ha. Doesn't count anymore? Don't count on it. I'm still under contract with my Photon, so it matters (to me, and I'm sure to a lot of other people) that they lied. The software on the Photon is hella buggy, and an upgrade might really help. Just because they're under new management does not give them a pass to screw over their old customers. So, AFAIGAF, "new" Motorola is the same as "old" Motorola, and they're both lousy.

For those waiting for the update be patient. Moto is nothing but leisurely about their releasing of software. When they even did the test it was a day or more before some people saw it. Also refreshing your phone/cache clearing/etc is pointless.

I can confirm the update is good and the buttery smoothness is very noticeable. Soak tested it for the past week and aside from some odd app behaviors that will hopefully update for 4.1 it's all good.

Here's my experience...

I was impatient and installed the JB leak that is/was on XDA. I did that this morning, before I saw AC's article on the real deal Holyfield update.

I tried to check for updates on my leaked-on Atrix and it intalled an 11 MB update so now I'm running official JB.

My wife got the photon Q a couple days ago, hope that moves to jb soon too. I have to say it's a surprisingly great little phone. I still prefer my GS3, but moto is really making some good hardware these days.

Enjoy your update, HD owners. Hope its worth never seeing 4.2+.
-OG Atrix Owner. Track records dont lie.

See my comment above. There's a big difference between the old Motorola and the new (Google-owned) Motorola.

That remains to be seen. Consider the fact that not only did they not release ICS, but NEW Motorola pushed out an OTA for Photon 4G owners that LOCKED THEIR BOOTLOADERS so they couldnt even install the incomplete CM9/10 builds even if they wanted to. This happened right around the time the ICS update was canceled, definitely not a decision of the old Moto.

To everyone complaining that you don't have the update: OTA's usually roll out over a period of 2 weeks! If you waited this long you can wait a few more days. Then when the update pops up it will be like early Christmas at your house.

I'm in St. Louis and as I mentioned before, I installed the JB leak and then received an OTA update after I checked for updates through Settings > About Phone. Device works just fine. I do notice there are some options now no longer available but nothing that requires me rethinking the choice I made to swap out devices.
