Lollipop is now rolling out to the Verizon Moto X (2014)!

Attention Moto X (2014) users on Verizon, today is your day! An update to Android 5.0 Lollipop is now available! Initially we expected this would only be available for soak test participants on Verizon, but it seems that it's actually available to all users of the second-generation Moto X on Big Red.

By all appearances the Lollipop update for the Moto X is bringing near-stock Android 5.0 to the table, with Motorola's light-but-useful additions added on top. Weighing in at more than 600MB this update's no slouch, but we'd expect nothing less for a version number that's going to change the way practically every facet of Android looks in the process.

According to Motorola's own changelog, once updated users will have the option to choose between Lollipop's Ambient Display or Motorola's Moto Display lock screen notifications. Though they note that Ambient Display does not utilize the same low-power processor core as Moto Display, and thus may have an adverse impact on battery life (and you won't be able to use the swanky IR sensor-enabled Moto Actions Approach gesture either).

As for everybody else with a Moto X… well, you'll have to wait for now. The Lollipop soak test for the Pure Edition Moto X and Moto G appears to still be ongoing, so hopefully it won't be much longer for those users (as well as AT&T customers) to get their hands on the latest from Motorola and Google. In the meantime, can we take a moment and marvel at the insanity of Verizon beating everybody else out the door with an update?
