New streaming support for Google's content services

Following today's Chromecast and Android 4.3 announcements, Google has updated its Play Music and Play Movies & TV services to take advantage of the new streaming capabilities. If you're one of the few people to posses a Chromecast dongle, you'll now be able to stream your Google music, movie and TV content to your TV directly through the app.

In the latest updates, Play Music also gets bug fixes and larger tap targets for context menus. Play Movies & TV gets support for virtual surround sound on the new Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 (running Android 4.3), along with Watch Now sync across devices and bug fixes.

Head on over to "My apps" in the Play Store app to grab your updates.

Google Play Music, Movies & TV updated with Chromecast support

I don't understand why Chromecast should not be an app installed on every google tv device. There is nothing in the Chromecast that should require us to buy it instead of using the GoogleTV we already own.

More for people who don't have Google Tv's. I've got a Samsung 46 LED Smart Tv and stoked to get this.

Not quite what I mean, I'm saying the device/feature is AWESOME and I am getting one but I don't understand why I can't do this already on my GoogleTV. There is nothing in this module that isn't already packed in a Google TV.

and maybe when you get home today you will realize with the new updates to the apps that you can use it on google tv as well

I'm hoping someone keeps us up to date on all the new apps that are going to support chromecast (AC, perhaps?) I can't wait to see this thing grow

OT: that's quite a bit of pinkish tint on that Galaxy S4 screen, unless that AMOLED screen just isn't photography friendly.

When I tried to update these apps I got a message saying "Error while retrieving information from server. [RPC:S-5AEC-0]" Does anyone know how to fix this?
I'm using a Nexus 4 running Android 4.2.2. Thanks.

Can someone please tell me the point of "watching" music on TV?
I mean Chromecast is a great device, i'm gonna buy one, but why would i "watch" music on my TV, i watch videos and listen to music, what's the point of turning on the tv, leave it there, "watch" the album cover and listen to your music using those bad tv speakers?

If you are running things through a decent sound system there are lots of reasons. You could use it for a party. You could use it for a kid's room or for your own bedroom. Or maybe a small TV in a kitchen even.

A very nice subtle update was the widen area of the options button for Google Play Music. Hated creating a queue playlist just to have it erased if I didn't touch the button at a small, precise spot and 1 song clears the playlist.
