So Google's gone and decided to acquire Motorola Mobility -- the manufacturer behind such smartphones as the Droid. Maybe you've heard of it.
It's a $12.5 billion deal that simultaneously does a lot, and not a lot. On one hand, the two companies will operate autonomously. Motorola will have to conduct itself as it has been in regard to using Android on smartphones.
And on the other hand, Google's just picked up thousands of patents it can use to defend whatever it needs to now. And that, of course, means Android.
