Verizon has been sitting on this update for a while now but it's finally ready for the masses. Yes, Motorola Droid X2 owners are being shown some love with the release Gingerbread for their devices. There is a whole bevy of changes within these update so be sure you hop on it as soon as possible:

Enhancements:

  • Download Manager App:
  • New App to manage all of your downloads from web browsing, email attachments and other apps.
  • Multi-Touch Key-Chording:
  • New ability to enter numbers and symbols with keyboard shortcut combos, instead of having to change to the numeric keyboard mode.
  • Improved Word Selection and Copy Functionality:
  • New capability to select a word via press-hold. A second press of the selected word copies the selected characters.
  • New User Interface and Color Scheme: New widgets, icons and screens with refreshed colors.

Security:

  • Added Device and SD Card encryption. VPN enhancements integrate IPSec VPN clients into device security settings.

Updated Calendar Options:

  • Display Calendar and event times in your home time zone when traveling.
  • Dismiss individual reminders, such as dismissing one meeting reminder without dismissing other meeting reminders.
  • Easy conference dialing – simply dial and automatically enter a conference
    code directly from your Calendar.
  • Google Books is now preloaded.
  • Geo-tagging features available for camera applications.

You'll find more improvements listed in the support PDF which can be found after the break but if you're not really into all that and would rather just get your Gingerbread on ASAP -- go ahead and check for system updates. You should find it readily available for download.

Isn't the Download Manager app (enhancement#1) the same as the app to manage downloads (enhancement#2)?

RETG says:

I'll be curious to see if this has as many problems as the original Droid X with GB?

soldierblade says:

@Chris Know if this will feature the new pseudo-3D look found in the Motorola applications platform (blur) on the Droid 3 or will it have the same UI as the gingerbread update released on the original DX?

GamerCore says:

Supposed to be the same as the Droid 3. The "good" Blur. =p

Bethlyn184 says:

Device still up to date - bummer... Will keep checking

fargles says:

my DX2 says it is up to date... idk what to doooooD:

Damn, that was fast! Didn't this phone came out like a month ago? Wish all of this years' (and last years) Froyo phones got Gingerbread this fast!

Kronko says:

Shut, I will need to get rid of the Thunderbolt and get a Motorola Droid X2 :)

luke31 says:

I think this is a mistake on Verizon's part... they may have fired the gun a bit too early, as the Soak Test promised by Motorola hasn't even made its way out yet. Also, Droid X2 owners don't seem to be getting the update just yet. I hope I'm wrong :(

redraider133 says:

Or just release them with the latest os lol.

Knyte says:

Motorola has not confirmed the date of this per a VZW rep I talked to earlier so they have no release date for this update. The Moto forums are buzzing with excitement about this update but again no confirmation of it hitting anytime soon.

NickAVV says:

So it's just like what VZW did with the Droid 2 Global Gingerbread update then?

olivr2 says:

nothing for me

Nicketmaster says:

I feel like I did waiting for my prom date. All dressed up and going nowhere.

TTGTOVR4 says:

WOW another phone NOT the THUNDERBOLT with GB update...EPIC FAIL

bama4life916 says:

My droidx2 is saying its up to date ......so no go here.

zakth says:

The only thing that's news here is that Verizon uploaded the PDF file. So yes, it's coming but when that time is... well, who knows? I am part of the soak test and can tell you that the last email we got was on 7/23 and that email told us that they where not yet ready to start the testing but would let us know when they are ready. So for everyone getting excited... well, don't hold your breath just yet.

Corey says:

Don't be in too much of a hurry. Gingerbread turned my DX into a steaming POS. Let them test the crap out of it so it doesn't ruin your phones.

rustymini says:

Why do they tell us stuff like this, and then...............nothing? The smarter thing to do is say.....on so and so date this update will be ready for download. FAIL!!!!! :o(

johncihak says:

No. Its not available from Verizon yet. Please do a little research before posting your stories.

gforce1963 says:

Dear Verizon,

Again..this is so not right. You've B*ch slapped me now.

Your's truly,

Thunderbolt

GoGetemB says:

This phone has been a big headache since I've gotten it.
I really hope this update info is true, if something don't changed soon then I'll definitely fight VZW for a new phone.

gatorboi352 says:

Incredible 2 is where it's at.

johncihak says:

I got both the DX2 and DI2. I agree, the DI2 is faster, lighter, better screen and better battery life (but worse reception)

mnymrk says:

VERIZON I NEED MY DROID 2 GINGERBREAD UPDATE!!!!!!!

qdub54 says:

My X2 says it's up to date. Thanks for the false info and getting my hopes up.

Jude526 says:

The original HTC Droid Incredible was promised the update this summer. Am still waiting for it.

licotto says:

I called VZW just now & was told that it is a staggered update & could take up to a week to receive. The guy told me I could check the update every day or wait to be notified. He said they typically release it to about a quarter million at a time to make sure it's stable...

At that rate, it could be next year before we get it. Thanks for nothing, VZW! All I want is the resets & screen blanks to stop...and to only receive ONE text message rather than 8+ duplicates of almost every text!!!

fargles says:

Hmm I was under the impression that Verizon just published the PDF and didn't actually release the update... I am sure happy if this is true and I get a message saying I can update. I have been trying to manually update as soon as this article was published and so far no luck... so hope it gets here soon.

Also what exactly are the soak tests for then? Because if new Blur and Gingerbread are kind of like a package deal then what's this upcoming soak test? Maybe smaller updates? But why would they soak for a smaller update?

Oh well as long as I get it I am happy lol

finally got my update this morning! besides gb's excellent copy-paste and blur's slightly uglier icons i don't see much of a difference. hopefully this will fix that battery/car dock issue.

cogpsy says:

My wife's x2 got an OTA notification that the update was available. After rebooting, however, the phone was completely frozen -- touchscreen unresponsive, home button unresponsive, etc. The phone has rebooted itself about 10 times within the last hour but is still frozen after each reboot. Tried resetting by removing the battery to no avail. Anybody else having similar issues? Tried searching many other venues but I'm afraid the update is new enough that not many others have tried updating.

Chelsea.Lynn says:

I got the update yesterday (Tuesday) morning. It took about 1/2 an hour and everything works great! Synced my phone's calendar to my google calendar for the first time ever, so far no duplicate texts, and I like the new look. Haven't experienced any other issues like the car dock display appearing since the update :)
