Throwing a wrench into some of the discussions in our forums and here on the site, Motorola took to Twitter today to say that it hasn't pushed out an update for the Motorola Droid since the December update, which we take to mean the Android 2.0.1 update. So what's the deal? And, more important, when will we see the Android 2.1 update hit? (Thanks, Jeremy!)

Update: Apparently all you pitchfork-wielding Motorola fans have spurred another comment from @MotoMobile:

Sprint ROM cookers are foaming at the mouth this morning as HTC has released the source code for the Sprint Hero. That means better ROMs, built from the same zeros and ones as HTC. It likely won't contain every line of code you'll find in an official Hero ROM, as close-sourced code doesn't have to be released. But it's already been compiled, and ROMs are cooking as we speak. Welp, there it is. The updated T-Mobile myTouch 3G Version 1.2. Looks just like the current one, save for the 3.5mm headphone jack, which is a welcome addition. Actually, there are rumors that there's more RAM on board (the current myTouch 3G has 512MB ROM/192MB RAM), but we'll have to wait and see on that. Still looking for an early February launch. Hey hey! Even though Google and China are having a little standoff, with Google even going as far as delaying 2 Android phones in China, it looks like the Lenovo LePhone will carry on business as usual. It's set to release in May of this year on China Mobile, China Telecom, & China Unicom--by our count, that's going to be a lot of potential users.

If you need a refresher, the Lenovo LePhone packs a 3.7 inch 480x800 touchscreen, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, and a 3MP camera. The picture above shows the potentially maddening optional keyboard but it seems like the LePhone might actually be an attractive device. Worldwide releases will follow the China launch later in the year so we'll see if Lenovo can do some damage in the smartphone space.

We know a lot of you guys got the recent Motorola Droid OTA Update, we personally haven't, but we're hearing that among other fixes, the battery life of the Droid has been much improved. Originally intended to fix Facebook issues, maybe the OTA Update improved the battery life of the Droid as well? Since the battery of the Droid has never been a problem for us, we're wondering which one of you guys are noticing the difference? Let us know in the comments! Battery life improvements withstanding, all we really want is Android 2.1 on our Droids.

We've known that the Nexus One will have some sort of accessories available, we just didn't know what exactly. However, it looks like a Nexus One Dock just got accidentally leaked via a YouTube advertisement. Guess someone jumped the gun! It's going to run for $45 (which is quite steep) and it "charges the phone, plays photo slideshows, & more"! We'd assume that the Nexus One Dock accessory would be similar to the Droid Dock (which can be found at the Android Central Store!), so we'd say it's a worthwhile purchase.

It currently says its available at google.com/phone, but a quick check shows nothing. You can be sure to find it at the Android Central Store once it becomes available.

Good news for those of you with the Archos 5 Internet Tablet (not to be confused with that other tablet that doesn't yet exist): The Android 1.6 update that was pulled as quickly as it was released last month is ripe for the picking. That pesky browser problem that forced the delay presumably has been squashed. There's also better "optimization of applications on the high-resolution screen," new quick search, bettery power management features and a new version of the ThinkFree Mobile docs viewer. Looking to market your Android app in China? Don't want to be bothered with Google's Android Market? Motorola's got you covered with SHOP4APPS. It's offering app testing, merchandising and promotion within China, interesting given Google's recent pullout.

On the one hand, it's yet another app store. Just what the world needs. On the other, and as Engadget notes, it gives the option to make someone other than Google the default search provider on an Android headset, which is no small thing either. [Motorola]

The Q4 numbers are in, folks, and Google's revenue for the final three months of the year was $6.7 billion, up 17 percent from the fourth quarter of 2008. Google-owned sites (YouTube and the like) made up 66 percent of that revenue for a total of $4.42 billion, up 16 percent over Q4 2008. AdSense revenue totaled $2.04 billion, or 31 percent.

Update: We listened in on the earnings call. CEO Eric Schmidt and Co. were upbeat about 2010. "We're back in business full-blast," Schmidt said. There was a good amount of talk about mobile (read: Android), but really nothing you haven't heard before.

Schmidt: "The Droid and Nexus One show the power of the Android approach."

"With all the capability these phones coming have, we think there's potential to make the mobile web better than the PC web." - Jonathan Rosenberg, Senior VP of Product Management

And Patrick Pichette, CFO, when asked about Nexus One margins: "We don't track percentage margins. We're looking for opportunities to innovate, ship products that are disruptive, game-changing."
