Samsung Illusion device page surfaces on Verizon Infocenter

8

It's been a while since we talked about the Samsung Illusion, but a friendly ninja just dropped off a screencap of the Verizon Infocenter page for the entry-level handset in our inbox.  Imagine a smaller version of the Nexus S, minus the vanilla Gingerbread build and plus an SD card slot, and you'll have a pretty good picture of what to expect.  The 1GHz Hummingbird and 512MB of RAM should make for a pretty damn speedy experience with the smaller resolution, though the tiny 3MP camera and TFT display clearly mark this one with the budget or entry-level tag.  With a 3.5-inch display and a curved design, it should be a pleasure to carry and use for talking, but the HVGA (480x320) resolution isn't going to win many points for you gamers out there.

All in all, it looks like one of the best beginner phones we've ever seen, with decent specs that hopefully will mean a low price point.  We've no idea about price or release, other than rumors that say "this month".  The page in the Infocenter went live today, so Verizon is getting prepped.  When we know more, we'll tell you.

Thanks, ninja!

Express from Sprint set to ship Nov. 18?

23

Not quite sure exactly what we're looking at here, but according to the latest version of the internal Sprint Playbook, it's the Express, it's running Android 2.3, and it's coming Nov. 18 via direct shipping. In addition to the obvious BlackBerry-esque keyboard, it's got a 2.6-inch touchscreen, a 600 MHz processor, Sprint ID, a 3.2MP camera and 1500 mAh battery. It'll go for just $19.99 after two-year contract and $50 mail-in rebate.

Update: Pocketnow notes it looks to be the Huawei Boulder.

The Droid RAZR unboxing gods are not pleased

64

Youtube link for mobile viewing

We've warned you that unboxings are lame. This is what happens when you don't listen. Take the phone out of the box, then show the box. Anything else is a blatant unboxing violation.

Thanks, Scott!

Joe Mobi launches for Android devices - Build a customized Android app for your Wordpress blog

1

If you run your own Wordpress blog, chances are you're using the Wordpress client to go ahead and access your blog on-the-go. But what if you could have your own, customized app built the way you wanted, branded and it had the capability to be shared with your readers. Would you use it? I'm sure a few of you out there would and that is exactly what Joe Mobi is offering.

While still running in beta status for now, the folks from Joe Mobi have gone ahead and launched their Android set up for Wordpress blog owners. Now, you can build a customized app for your blog and have it work on Android or BlackBerry devices. You can brand it with your own logo and icon, pick your own colors and more.

The service is free and when all is said and done you get a neatly packaged .apk to install for yourself and a link for which you can share with your readers. It's a pretty unique service and one I think a lot of people who run a Wordpress blog can make use of. Costco selling Droid RAZR with free bonus pack -- HD Dock, HDMI cable, and chargers

31

There's two important things to know about the Droid RAZR in this Costco internal memo an anonymous friend sent us -- the first is that yes, Costco will be carrying them, and the second is that Costco members will get an exclusive "Accessory Bonus Pack" with an HD dock, HDMI cable, portable charger, and a second wall charger.  The flip side of the coin is that it looks like at least some locations will be waiting a few extra days past the 11/11/11 11:11 launch date before they will have the phones in stock, with Nov. 14 being the target date for inventory to start showing up.

Will Costco's liberal return policy, customer service, and of course that sweet HD dock (check out the review) be enough to keep you waiting a few days to get your RAZR?  Shout out in the comments, and of course you can always discuss further in the forums, which are already bumping with excitement over this one.

Thanks, Anon!

Android Mini App Review: PrettyPix HD

9

Ok -- I'll admit it, I am a huge sucker for changing wallpapers on any device I own, and I am an even bigger sucker for an extremely well designed wallpaper application. I have been known to spend hours searching for a new wallpaper to match my home screen configuration, and I tend to get bored looking at the average wallpaper applications. Meet PrettyPix HD, my new favorite wallpaper application.

Sure, you may be thinking that it is just another wallpaper application, but that's where you are wrong, this one does it with some serious style. From the first launch you will notice the layout is very clean, nice spacing between each wallpaper, and a very simple interface. Depending on your preference you can scroll through the pages, or sort by category, and once you find one you like and you click on it the image shows in the center of the screen, showing you the full image, and up top you have thumbnails of the wallpaper before and after it in the series.

The application, like most of the others, offers you the ability to save the wallpapers to your device, as well as share them with friends and family, as well as crop the wallpapers if you only want to use a particular section of it. With over 50,000 HD wallpapers, and a price tag of free, what is stopping you from hitting the break with us and checking out the download links?

Music mix favorite 8Tracks now on Android

6

We're playing around with the 8Tracks Android app this morning, getting our mix on and are pretty much enjoying the ad-supported service. The idea's simple enough: DJ's (that's you) make mixes of at least eight songs, which anyone can listen to. You can like and share individual mixes, follow DJs and be as social (or not) as you want.

It's a pretty diverse crowd, to be sure. And the service gets better the more you share, which makes sense for this sort of thing. You can also browse by tags -- sex mix anyone? -- which is a fun way for genre browsing. You'll need to either register with 8Tracks or log in with Facebook.

We've got more screen shots and download links asfter the break.
