What Gear S3/Gear Sport apps do you use the most?

We're expecting big things from Samsung next month in the form of the Galaxy Watch, but until then, the Gear S3 and Gear Sport remain as two of the best smartwatches money can buy.

Both wearables run Samsung's own Tizen OS, and while the developer support for it isn't quite as strong as what's available with Wear OS, there are still plenty of apps that make the Gear S3 and Gear Sport much more functional than they are out of the box.

We recently decided to check in with our forum users to see which apps they're loving right now, and this is what they had to say.

Text messaging, calculator, stopwatch, timer, Samsung Pay. If you work out, take a look at Workout Trainer by Skimble in the Gear store. The app for your phone has a companion app for your S3. Start a workout on your phone and open the app on your watch and you can follow along with your watch. If you have ear buds in, your coach will tell you each step of the way what to do next.

I love Taylormade My Round Pro for golf and Radar for seeing the weather radar when I'm cycling

I would have to say aside from notifications; timer, weather, music player, and the workout function in SHealth. All stock apps but these are the ones I use at least once a day.

Definitely enjoy having Pear Sports, Gear Navigator and Radar on the watch, all are great third party apps I use frequently.

Now we want to hear from you! What are your favorite apps for the Gear S3/Gear Sport?

  • I just realized that outside watch faces, I've never found anything interesting on that Gear app store. Im just fine with the stock apps I guess. The only thing I miss is Google Pay. Samsung Pay doesnt nearly accept the same number of banks here in the UK. Shameful, too. No support, no push from Samsung it appear, especially when Apple Pay is so widely accepted. One of the few positive points I see for a return to Wear OS.
  • Doesn't the MST feature allow you to use your credit card at any standard credit-card pay terminal? Here in the US, I can use the Gear S3's MST at every location where I'd otherwise need a credit card. (The only exception being gas stations, where the magnetic stripe reader is too far embedded into the machine.)
  • Just the stock apps outside of watch faces. No point in apps on a freaking watch
  • None. The stock apps are ok I guess. I only use the watch faces
  • Clock. Weather. I do check my sleep efficiency. Samsung Pay is convenient. "Find my mobile" is also a good one Outside that I use it to monitor notifications like emails, texts, twitters, etc. to see if anything needs attention as opposed to checking my phone every time it vibrates.
  • Nest. It's really useful to be able to check/set our home thermostat from anywhere without pulling out my phone.
  • For me it's various watch faces, timer, stopwatch and step counter. Lesser used features include texting and answering calls. I would love to use Samsung Pay, but it's not supported by my bank. I can use my phone for S Pay because they're partnered with PayPal. That partnership doesn't extend to the watch though.
  • I like the various watch faces, Samsung Pay, Samsung Health and music. I like the ability to play music on my Bluetooth headphones on my S3 as I workout
  • I would like to say Samsung Pay, but I'm very frustrated with it. I don't know if it's a hardware or software issue, but every week or so, my cards get deleted. I did a factory reset with the watch and phone, but it still persists. I bought the phone specifically to use Samsung Pay.
