What you need to know

  • TCL has rolled out the first set of updates for its Android phones.
  • The company promises up to two years of support.
  • Alongside the updates, price cuts of up to 15% are up for grabs on both phones.

The TCL 10 Pro and T0L have received updates this week, bringing the duo up to the May 2020 security update. TCL earlier promised that it would deliver maintenance releases every two months, and this is the first such update. "We can confirm both the TCL 10 Pro and 10L will, at minimum, receive one major OS update as well as SMR updates every two months to two years," a TCL spokesperson said last month.

Here's what's new (via XDA Developers):

TCL 10 Pro (version v2.0.4D.H.D):

  • Improved camera performance
  • TCL watermark no longer turned on by default
  • Improved touch panel performance and user experience
  • Enhanced system stability
  • Android Security Maintenance Releases updated to May 2020

TCL 10L (version v2.0.3C.H.9):

  • Improved camera performance
  • TCL watermark no longer turned on by default
  • Enhanced system stability
  • Android Security Maintenance Releases updated to May 2020

TCL has also dropped the pricing on this on Amazon and Best Buy. Buyers can shave 15% from the RRP, taking the pricing down to $381.65 from $449.99. The TCL 10-series are decent enough phones and the price cuts might put them at a level where people find them palatable over more known contenders.

Reviewing the series for Android Central, Hayato Huseman noted the duo was "a great start" with sleek designs (for the Pro at least), clean software, and a useful smart key. You can check out the full review for more fleshed out thoughts here. The camera was a sore spot, but hopefully this update somewhat mitigates that.
