Microsoft has unveiled work on a new Office app soon headed to iOS and Android, bundling Word, Excel, and PowerPoint into a central hub for productivity needs. Operating as a one-stop-shop for core Office experiences, it retains the full functionality of each application, now streamlined into one interface. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint reside as standalone experiences on Apple's Apple Store and the Google Play Store, with the app set to eliminate that disconnect.

While Office hasn't formally launched on iOS and Android, Microsoft has kicked off beta testing via TestFlight for iOS and Google Play for Android. Here's how to try the new Microsoft Office app today.

  • After using the app for 5 seconds I knew that it was going to be awesome. I was expecting it to be horrible like they're stand alone office apps for Android. I used it for a few tasks today and I was really impressed. I hope they make this installable on Chromebooks too.
  • It's pretty rad! I set it as the default app for opening everything office!
  • How are the standalone apps horrible? They work fine for me
  • They aren't horrible. They are great. Maybe he is referring to how much memory the stand alone apps take up compared to the unified app.
  • I was able to install it on my S10, but my Tab S6 is showing as incompatible. Samsung shipped an earlier version of this with the S6 and even if I remove their version it won't install the beta. Sigh, the tablet would actually be more useful than the phone.
