At the MIUI 7 global launch event, Xiaomi announced a new feature for the ROM called Data Saver, made in collaboration with Opera. The feature compressed image and video data, with Xiaomi touting a reduction in data usage by as much as 50 percent.
Opera Max — the underlying compression technology that will power the Data Saver feature — has been implemented in China last year, and now Xiaomi is bringing the feature to all international markets. The feature will be available system-wide, allowing you to save data when using apps such as YouTube, Instagram, Line, Facebook and more.
The feature is particularly useful in countries like India, where data charges tend to be priced significantly higher than voice tariffs.
