Get ready: the Xiaomi 18 Pro is coming with an even more magical rear display
Official teasers are finally here.
What you need to know
- Xiaomi started teasing its 18 Pro series on Weibo this week with a teaser clip that gives us our best look at its rear display.
- Xiaomi teased enhancements for the screen, though it did not go into details.
- Recent rumors allege the company could upgrade the rear display from 2.1 inches to 4 inches, as well as "increased brightness."
After the Xiaomi 17 Pro series' positive reception, the Chinese OEM is looking to rekindle those same flames. It's started teasing the 18 Pro series on social media, and it's looking even more magical.
This week on Weibo, Xiaomi officially teased its upcoming 18 Pro series with a short teaser video focused on one feature: the rear display (via GSMArena). The clip gives us our best look at the 18 Pro's rear display. A multi-colored gradient animation swims around its edges. The teaser confirms that the device will feature two lenses within the rear display; however, there's a third right below. This keeps things similar to what Xiaomi did last year with the 17 Pro.
We can also spot a couple of buttons on the phone's right side (your left when viewing the image below). The opposite side also features a button, which is a key difference between the 17 Pro and the 18 Pro.
While exciting, Xiaomi teases more, stating, "The all-new Xiaomi 18 Pro series features a brand-new, versatile back screen." This is what we're focusing on since we know how popular the Xiaomi 17 Pro series was for the company. People enjoyed the secondary screen, but how Xiaomi intends to upgrade it is still unclear.
With its official teasers going up, the launch probably isn't too far.
Captivating displays
As we mentioned before, the Xiaomi 17 Pro series was incredibly popular for the company. Barely a month after the devices debuted, Xiaomi publicly stated that the rear displays would continue in the next series. It was reported that the 17 series shattered "first-sale" records within minutes after going live. Lu Weibing, Xiaomi's president, said the 2.1-inch rear display on the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max made the difference.
A "positive surge" in the market gave Xiaomi all it needed to keep this trend going. For a moment, we'll have to talk about the rear display. Rumors claim Xiaomi is not only keeping the display (as Xiaomi's president said), but it'll upgrade it, too. Supposedly, the new display will measure 4 inches, up from 2.1 inches on the 17 Pro series. Reports also say the Chinese OEM could improve the rear display's brightness, along with "privacy protections."

That final bit gets us thinking about a Privacy Display similar to Samsung's.
Android Central's Take
Xiaomi's last phones were pretty cool. It takes that simple LED dot or whatever and turns it into a screen. It's been done in a different way in the past, but seeing it now is a little refreshing. And, clearly, it worked out well for Xiaomi that it's willing to continue. More teasers are likely to follow this one before the 18 series launches.
