Vodafone Smart Tab 4

If you're on Vodafone in the UK and are looking for a cheap tablet to get it done, the new Smart Tab 4 might just fit the bill. The 8-inch tablet (800x1280) sports a quad-core MTK8382 processor at 1.2 GHz, 1 GB of RAM, and a 2MP rear camera, with 0.3MP out front.

It's running Android 4.2.2 at launch, with an upgrade to Android 4.4 KitKat in the works.

The Smart Tab 4 runs £125 on Pay as you go (including a 2GB data bundle), or £20 per month (including 2GB data) with a £29 upfront cost on a Pay Monthly plan.

There's better out there. Rip-off Vodafone again, aiming at the uninitiated (?). Tab 3 8.0 is now around £130. 2013 Lenovo tablets have similar spec and great build.

and which of those tablets you mention have built-in 3G modems?

Yes, corrected. I came back to this article and forgot the sim thing again. Slight anti Vodafone bias. Still, Lenovo were selling their I think S5000 or A3000 at £139 wifi and 159 sim. There is not much choice though for tablets with sims. Samsungs were available at John Lewis and the like but for silly prices.

For a 3G tablet that's a bargain.
