As promised, Vizio today offered some details into the Android line of products it'll be showing this week at CES. Here's what we have to look forward to:

  • The whole shebang is called the Vizio VIA Plus Ecosystem.
  • The VIA Phone is a 4-inch Android smartphone with 1GHz processor, 802.11 n Wifi, GPS, HDMI output, 5MP rear camera and front-facing secondary camera.
  • The VIA Tablet is an 8-inch tablet with 1GHz processor, 802.11n Wifi, GPS, HDMI output, three speakers for stereo audio, plus a front-facing camera.
  • VIA Plus televisions and Blu-ray players have Google TV built in. The phone and tablet will, of course, serve as remote controls.

We'll definitely get a gander and these guys this week and get some more deets -- like what version of Android, how's the custom UI look, and all that jazz. Stay tuned, folks. Full presser's after the break.

schlitter11 says:

So what does this mean for the VIZIO VIA tvs that are already on the market? Will they get updated to Google TV or are they going to see any support going forward?

.......I mean Vizio has come a very long way as far as quality goes.... But with Android we all know that the demand of the Android community is something that companies need to adjust to...the demand for update and hardcore specs. Especially updates. So far the only 2 manufacturers getting things right is HTC and MOTO. Not even Sammy is taking updates as serious as they need to and next generation (this year) it's going to bite them in the ass

Viper says:

Of course there has to be someone whining and crying about Samsung in here, despite the fact this articles has NOTHING to do with it. But since you brought it up, you are WRONG. Samsung gave their finished version of 2.2 to the carriers 2 months ago. The carriers are to blame, NOT SAMSUNG. I'm sick of all the babies on here crying about Samsung when it has nothing to do with them.

Buuuuuuu huuuuuu samsung is sooo bad sooo lame no updates no cool phones no nothing....! Relax.... their opinions...

XEOD says:

Other comment flagged as spam... However disagree that its not Samsung's fault for Froyo as they have tweeted otherwise that they are "still" working on 2.2 for their US phones.

voghan says:

I'm hoping the tablet has a WiFi only version. I really like my vizio televisions and would definitely check out their tablet.

trenen says:
