AT&T Captivate

Lo, look forth on the AT&T Captivate -- its version of the Samsung Galaxy S. Just like the other carriers' versions, it's thin, light, and flies, thanks to that 1GHz Hummingbird processor. And that Super AMOLED screen -- gorgeous. We can only hope that AT&T doesn't do its usual job of locking down the phone to the Android Market, but that's hardly Samsung's fault, is it. Peep more hands-on pics after the break.

Couldn't check whether sideloading was disabled while playing?

That's exactly what I thought. I think this is the ugliest of the bunch. That's just my opinion though.

Clever of them to crank up the brightness on the SAMOLED and dim down the Evo and X. Not saying it's not a beautiful screen, but yeah...

Agreed ... it appears there was a little bias when taking the comparison shots?

Also agree with the first post, why didn't anyone take 2 seconds to see if sideloading was disabled?

AT&T has already said that all their android phones will be market apps only. They claim it's so they can hold developers responsible for their work lol.

Wait, is that a front facing camera? I thought the Captivate wasn't going to have the front facing...is that not a camera?

Most likely its just sensors. The UK version has a front facing camera but they took it out of the America versions. Unless they decide to put it on the final product.

I'm losing patience with ATT, still need a real high end, feature rich Android offering. No camera flash? Removed the FFC?
I have a Storm2 for work, and it looks eerily similar :(

My living room is nothing but Samsung. The led TV, sound bar and blue ray player. Samsung delivers the goods at in home theater. I'm sorry. But my phone will not be a Samsung. Terrible... sticking with my at&t n1.

I know I'm one of the few, but I'm actually excited for this phone. I am tired of my iPhone and have been wanting a decent Android phone on AT&T, and I can't afford to pay for the n1.

I know this doesn't have the front facing camera, but I honestly don't think it is something I would use much anyway, and as for the not installing 3rd party apps, there's always rooting.

Just my 2 cents.

You don't even have to root to install 3rd party apps. Just install the SDK and use the ADB console to push the .apk from your PC to your phone. End of problem. I do it for my wife on her Backflip all the time.

The Htc Aria is still looking more appealing at this point. I'm kind of hesitate to go with Samsung and their cell phones due to terrible phones like the blackjack, that I have had in the past. There will be several problems with Captivate when it comes out, im sure. I upgrade in August and have to make a decision then.

My thoughts exactly..I'm in the same boat. I can upgrade in July. I just don't want an iPhone. Currently using a BlkBerry.

I'm using blackberry also (8900). I hate it, this is one their worst phones ive ever used. I've been through 5 of these. I would go with Htc Aria. Its by a proven company. It has already been rooted and im pretty sure you can get it to where it allows third party apps.

Not that cosmetiques plays a role in my purchase decision but why out all four phones from each company(Verizon, Tmobile, Sprint etc..), AT&T gets the ugliest one? Damn...At&t determined to promote the iPh4 in anyway as possible, huh?!

I want the Aria still. But I'm pretty sure they announced 5 android phones at the beginning and they have shown off 4 now ( Dell Streak is ATT right? ), so one more to try to change my mind ^^

i also wanted to add i spoke with an att rep when my dad got his phone and asked him why att would block third party apps from the phones and he stated that it was not att and that all google phone are restricted to market only and i just wanted to tell everyone that that is a lie because i have the galaxy with tmobile and i have access to all third party apps on my phone .....
