Do you have an Android Dev Phone 1 or Google Ion laying around somewhere? Well if you do, you're just in luck--you can go and download Android 1.6 Donut and explore the latest Android OS to your liking. If you need a quick refresher, Android 1.6 offers support for CDMA devices, new screen sizes, a new text-to-speech engine and a lot more goodies for developers to build better apps.

Android 1.6 Donut hasn't been deemed ready for the prime time yet so us regular Android users will have to wait for an official launch to enjoy Donut. Even so, we're sure the Android developer community will figure out a way to port Android 1.6 onto our stock G1s and myTouch's soon enough.

Don't download this yet!!! They signed the apps with the wrong certs, so you will need to wipe your phone to get it to work. And you will need to wipe your phone AGAIN when they fix the certs. Better (for most people) to wait. See: http://groups.google.com/group/io-device/browse_thread/thread/319ab5645a...

(This applies to G1 AND ION).
