U.S. Cellular to begin testing VoLTE this year in select markets

Voice over LTE (VoLTE) appears to be the hot new item that all the carriers are looking to implement, and it looks like U.S. Cellular will soon be testing the technology itself. CEO Ken Meyers recently confirmed that the carrier will begin testing VoLTE in a few markets starting this year.

The news comes via Fierce Wireless:

Speaking at the Citi 2015 Internet, Media and Telecommunications Conference on Tuesday, CEO Ken Meyers said that in 2015 the company will focus on finishing its LTE rollout and will begin a VoLTE user trial in "two or three" markets.

Mum's the word on when or where we can expect testing to begin, but it's a good sign that U.S. Cellular is looking to wait until it has finished its LTE rollout. Hopefully customers in at least a few markets will be experiencing the exquisite sound of HD voice calling relatively soon.
