Bumpers are awesome for protecting against impacts around the edges of your device, and while they don't offer extraordinary insurance like other cases for the Galaxy S6, there's still plenty to appreciate. I had a chance to use this Crash Guard Bumper from Evolutive Labs with my S6 for a short period of time, and was pleasantly surprised how it held up to a few fumbles. Check out some additional observations and a nail-biting drop test video after the break.
This is about as basic as it gets when it comes to a case. Easy to install and remove, complete access to the ports of the Galaxy S6, and side buttons are accented and raised for an easier press. The matte finish around this bumper case provides an enhanced grip, which feels great around the S6, but manages to pick up fingerprints pretty well. It's extremely lightweight and flexible, featuring a honeycomb pattern inside the polycarbonate frame that surely helps dissipate impacts when they occur.
While the impacts that occurred on my watch weren't nearly as severe as the one shown in the video above, it's damn impressive to see the Samsung Galaxy S6 come out unscathed after such a tumble. The lip around the front elevates the display just enough to keep away any scratches, but on the opposite side there's a better lift — leaving me wondering why both sides couldn't share that same buffer. Still, the Rhinoshield Crash Guard Bumper exceeds military drop test standards and is even recyclable when it's time to retire this slim stallion.
Pros
- Slim profile
- Easy to press side buttons
- Wireless charger friendly
Cons
- Front bezel could be raised more
- Picks up fingerprints easily
The verdict
In short: It's an excellent option as far as bumper cases go. There's no extra bulk, it's easy to handle, and it works flawlessly with wireless chargers. It's currently priced at $24.99, which sounds a bit steep for a simple bumper case, but without a doubt — the quality is there. If bumper cases are your thing, give this one a try because it's great protection for its size.
