Samsung makes some of the best foldables, with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 delivering plenty of upgrades. Samsung controls a sizeable chunk of this category thanks to its strong presence in the U.S., and seeing as how its immediate rivals don't sell in the region, it is unchallenged.

That isn't the case globally, and Huawei and Vivo are making positive moves with their own foldables. The Vivo X Fold 5 is one of my favorite devices of 2025, and the Huawei Mate XT is arguably the most innovative phone around. Having used the tri-folding device over the course of 2025, I'm excited to see Samsung roll out its own device in this category.

Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold: Design

The Galaxy Z TriFold looks similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 thanks to the camera modules, but the foldable has two inward-folding sections, going out to a tablet-sized 10-inch panel when fully unfolded.

I routinely use my Mate XT fully unfurled, and it's just great to be able to access that kind of real estate in a foldable device. However, Samsung is taking a slightly different design; instead of the outer 6.5-inch 1080p panel on the left and using a Z-style folding configuration, the cover screen is in the middle on the Galaxy Z TriFold, with two sections on either side folding inward.

Samsung says it made considerable changes to its Armor FlexHinge hinge to allow better durability, with the brand noting that the hinge is built to last. When fully folded, the Galaxy Z TriFold comes in at 12.9mm, which is significantly bulkier than the svelte Z Fold 7, but you do get a bigger screen.

And at 309g, it is heavier than even the Mate XT. But when it's unfolded, it is just 3.9mm thick, and that's just incredible.

Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold: Hardware

It isn't astonishing to think the Galaxy Z TriFold leverage the latest hardware; the storage and memory configurations are identical to the Z Fold 7, and the foldable is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite.

Interestingly, it has the same cameras as the Z Fold 7, including a 200MP main camera that should take terrific photos. It's joined by a 10MP tele lens with 3x optical zoom, and a 12MP wide-angle module. Just like the Galaxy Z Fold 7, the camera modules protrude quite a bit, so there will be noticeable wobble when using the foldable.

The device gets a 5,600mAh battery, making it the Samsung phone with the biggest battery. Although it doesn't come close to the latest Chinese devices like the Vivo X300 Pro, it's still a good start, and you get 45W charging.

Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold: Release date

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z TriFold in early December, and the tri-fold device is set to go on sale in South Korea starting December 12. It is coming to other Asian markets, including China, the UAE, and select regions later in December.

Samsung has confirmed that it will bring the Galaxy Z TriFold to the U.S. in Q1 2026. Considering it costs the equivalent of $2,500 in Korea, there's a good chance that it will be around that figure when it lands in the U.S., and it is highly probable that it may end up even costlier. Unlike the Galaxy Z Fold 7, the Galaxy Z TriFold is produced in limited quantities, and that's understandable seeing as how it is a brand-new form factor.
