HTC 10 spotted in leaked video ahead of April 12 launch

The HTC 10 is set to be announced tomorrow, but already we're seeing a early look thanks to a newly leaked promotional video. The handset featured in this video matches what we've seen in previous leaks, so it's certainly plausible this is the phone that will be featured during HTC's announcement tomorrow.

The video (found via The Verge) also sees HTC dropping the "One M" branding from of its flagship smartphone, as widely rumored. Leaked specifications point to a 5.15-inch QHD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, an Adreno 530 graphics chip, 4GB of RAM, a 12MP camera and a USB Type-C connection.

We expect to have more details to share with you tomorrow. In the meantime, hit the comments and let us know if you're excited for the HTC 10?

  • I like the look of the black one. I'm not a fan of the front, looks a bit like Samsung designs of the past. I prefer the fingerprint scanner to be on the back. Posted via the Android Central App
  • have you tried to use a fingerprint scanner located at the back whilst the phone is on the table?, have you tried to use it in the car whilst the phone is in the holder?. fingerprint scanner at the back is absolutely retarded idea.
  • Actually, in the car is really easy. Same with on the table, if you set up smart unlock on your phone. It will stay unlocked in your car when connected to Bluetooth . Or if you have Android wear, it will be unlocked with your device. I love having the finger print sensor in the back. It's very convenient, and I don't have to wake up the g5, it wakes and unlocks at the same time, unlike the galaxy devices. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Only not everyone use their phone like that or has AW. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Yeah I use smart unlock paired with my 360 and its hit or miss sometimes.
  • Precisely, I don't have Android wear. I only just bought a car that has Bluetooth. Even so, the sound of the m9 through an aux cord sounds ten times better than it does over Bluetooth. Everyone uses these things differently. Fingerprint scanner on the front, for me is going to be perfect. HTC always makes the perf phone for me. The ego did not post this
  • > m9 through an aux cord sounds ten times better than it does over Bluetooth. hmmm... Is that a problem with the m9? or your car's Bluetooth? Because it isn't a universal bluetooth/phone issue. My 5X (and Nexus 5 before it) sound great over my car's Bluetooth.
  • Same here! Must be their phone or audio system. I have a Pioneer NEX-8000 and it sounds great!
  • I can speak only from experience with my M7, but there is a special audio profile that activates when plugged in via headphone port that doesn't while connected to bluetooth. It's a "Boomsound" feature for added bass and improved audio dynamics. Opinion expressed from a Moto X Pure
  • Yea... It's called beats audio Posted via HTC One M7
  • Yep Posted via the Android Central App
  • Great points Posted via HTC One M7
  • Not everyone cares about unlocking it without picking it up. People have different preferences. Posted via the Android Central App
  • I've had phones with both, and I much prefer it on the back, it feels less awkward to me when holding the phone to use it on the back. I do have an LG though, so I just use the knock code when I'm not using the fingerprint sensor. I might feel differently if I had to do a pattern or a pin in those instances. People are gonna have different preferences though, so it's all subjective
  • I agree. I hated the placement of the fingerprint sensor on the Nexus 6P.
  • The front is no better while on a desk. Angle your thumb down to unlock? Equally retarded.. Smart unlock is the answer for cars. Just pick up your phone at work. Posted via Techmology
  • Nah just use your index finger. While I liked the power button placement of the g2, for a fingerprint reader I prefer it being on the front. Can easily use my thumb while holding it or use my index finger if on a table or in my car.
  • I've have had both and prefer it on the back with Gravity Screen. It is a much more ergonomic position. No issue with the car holder as I use my middle finger to unlock my 6P as if I was going to remove it from the holder. I have a holder that I just drop the phone into. But Gravity Screen can be configured to due all of this without the need to unlock.
  • Yes I have. That's why I like it on the back. It's not hard. I wonder if illiterate people get the full effect of alphabet soup
  • Looks great
  • Why no front speakers?!!?
  • at least it have one front facing speaker if not two. but it have stereo speakers but in different arrangement.
  • From what I've heard, it fires sound from the top speaker and the bottom one at the same time. It's odd, but I think the big deal with this phone is going to be the DAC.
  • The new MQA sound technology is based on merging i.e. interfering of tones. They made classic front speaker above the screen, which make tweets (high-pitch) tones and upper half of middle range tones. On the bottom is subwoofer, which makes deepest bass and also lower half of middle range tones. Hope I helped you ;-)
  • Might have to hold off and keep my M7 Posted via the Android Central App
  • I feel the same with my M8.. it's going strong after Marshmallow update so I'm hanging on to it. #❤M8 Posted via HTC One M8 and Android Central App
  • While the M8 is up to date with excellent performance, you'll still want the 10. It's that much better. Since you currently have an excellent smartphone, 'please' let us get our orders filled first.
  • I hope they don't abandon the silver model with the black front.. Posted via the Android Central App
  • The front looks pretty weak. Looks like any cheap Chinese android phone with a Samsung button.
  • Yuck. The front looks like a cheap iPhone rip off, and it seems so thick. Horrible. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Totally agree. Looks like an iPhone and Samsung made a baby!
  • Maybe they should put phone capabilities in a tree branch, box it up and proceed to sell millions!! It's like the second coming of Steve jobs! Or we could accept the notion that the modern smartphone is of distinct design. Screen, camera in the rear, speaker port(s), home button or capacitive or none(which non techies probably prefer some physical button), Ear piece and that's about it. Maybe if they put the home button up top and the camera on bottom of their respective screens people would hush...maybe. This is better looking than the s7. Hopefully the internals, camera and ux prove as good or better. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Maybe better looking than the s7 but not the s7 edge...
  • Subjective opinion? I think so... The ego did not post this
  • The shiny edge is harder to hold and use, subject to mis-presses, and instantly gets crubby.
  • Nice try lol Posted via the Android Central App
  • No. No it doesn't. You could argue it looks like a Samsung, but it doesn't look like an iPhone . Posted via the Android Central App

  • No front speaker brah Posted via the Android Central App
  • It have front facing speaker you missed to see it just.
  • HTC 10 is equipped with stereo speakers that HTC itself 'HTC BoomSound HiFi edition' refers speakers. Although the speakers are slender, the speakers deliver again a better sound quality than the speakers in the HTC One M9. In addition to the HTC BoomSound audio technology HTC 10 also features Dolby Audio
  • Also a new enhanced high-output amplifier and built-in DAC that converts 16-bit audio to 24-bit.
  • I like the look of it. Looking over the specs, my only complaint is the 5.1" screen. I know that most prefer that size but I just got used to 5.7
  • Agreed. Hopefully the HTC 10 will be at least moderately successful and they will come out with a larger version later in the year (hopefully not as a carrier exclusive that gets little support). Posted via the Android Central App
  • It has a brilliant natural color 5.2" Super LCD 5 display. The preferred size/form factor of the largest percentage of users. Comfortable to hold, use, pocket, and conveniently place and remove from cup holder. Jewelry cut easy to grip chamfered edges back and front. Perfect placement and size of volume and textured off buttons. The HTC 10 will be available UNLOCKED directly from the HTC Website with monthly updates like the Nexus plus a Developer Edition and will probably also function on Project Fi.
  • It's actually 5.15".
  • And toy know all this without actually holding the phone?
  • Are you just copying directly from marketing material? Because you sound like an ad. Posted via the Android Central App
  • No, just consolidating various credible leaks. I have no access to marketing material. Expect all that tomorrow, April 12, from HTC. I consider your question a compliment PZ, although I botched my grammar in at least one post.
  • I like it. I've always been a fan of the Sense UI and if the camera is up to scratch then it's a definite candidate for my next phone, Posted via the Android Central App
  • IPhone ripoff.. Samsung ripoff... Blah blah blah. Same tired old complaints. Posted via Xperia Z5
  • I'm honestly getting tired of it. Phones these days all look nearly identical to one another. They all have a large glass panel at the front, a camera at the back and is made out of either plastic, glass or metal on its body. Unless more phones look like the Nextbit Robin, each and every one of them will share a similar design mantra.
  • Especially in the past six months. A lot of these devices look similar. Posted via my LG G5
  • Exactly. Just put the Galaxy S7, LG G5, HTC 10, the iPhone 6s and some other phones and look at them from afar. They look roughly identical, with only the smaller details being the main differentiator between them.
  • and most of the people complaining about looks will put a case on it and won't be able to see anything but the screen anyway.
    I don't own a single case.
  • Samsung been blatantly ripping off apple and even admitted it for years. Stop ******** it's just a phone. How else are they to make a phone, round? This phone is not for you Posted via the Android Central App
  • Was that to the OP or to those who were complaining? PS: The OP wasn't talking about the design. He was remarking how he is tired of seeing the same type of comments on lots of phones.
  • I like it Posted via the Android Central App
  • Everyone keeps saying the front is ugly, looks like Samsung/iPhone ripoff.
I don't recall hearing complaints that Samsung and iPhone are ugly?? WTF?? All I want to know is how much and when can i get it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I've been confused by that too lol Posted via the Android Central App
  • It shows their inability to reason and make a logical statement.
  • Haha yup. People just love to complain.
  • Totally agree. Was about to post that it makes this phone one damn good looking one, then I read your comment.
  • Those large chamfers, though. Anyhow, I actually kinda like how it looks. The back reminds me a whole lot about my One M7 and the front does (admittedly) resemble a cross between an iPhone and a recent Galaxy device, but honestly, I don't really give a damn. Smartphones these days usually share the same design cues, so I really don't care where it got its inspiration from. I hope the camera shapes up to be a competitive one this year. But so far, I'm liking it. Don't let me down this year, HTC.
  • I agree,I like the looks of the phone, especially in the dark color, not so sure about the chamfered edges feeling awkward. If they are using the 6p camera and have added OIS to it,that will be very nice.I may be able to get my mother and father on a phone newer than their still nice m7's.Good luck to HTC and I also hope the replacement for the V10 is great. Posted via the Android Central App
  • The HTC 10 has a 12 megapixel camera with an aperture of f / 1.8 and the large image sensor, UltraPixel, that captures more light resulting in better quality pictures. Furthermore, the primary camera of the HTC 10 is equipped with optical image stabilization and laser autofocus. The camera is able to deliver the same picture quality DSLR cameras (digital SLR) and can store pictures in uncompressed RAW format. It also captures 4K (Ultra HD) video recordings. In addition, the HTC 10 the world's first smartphone capable of 24-bit capture high-res stereo sound for videos. The front selfie is also an Ultra Pixel 5 megapixels camera with an aperture of f / 1.8. Uniquely, the front camera has optical image stabilization.
  • You should work for HTC as their marketing director. XD Lame jokes aside, I hope you're right about the camera. I don't want to see a 4th HTC flagship device in a row that has a subpar camera.
  • You, as well as all Android fans, should get really excited about this (hands on). http://www.phonearena.com/news/HTC-10-tester-says-phone-lives-up-to-teas...
  • I think it looks good but I also agree that the front looks a bit like a cross of Samsung + iPhone. I happen to like the front of both those phones so I don't necessarily see that as a problem. I do wonder how HTC will convince consumers to get this over Samsung though. Hopefully they pull it off. Posted via the Android Central App

  • Yeah, but he wants to be concealed. I bet it's him!
  • Like others, I like the back and sides. Not a fan of the front. Internally I don't believe HTC is going to fix my issues with the M8.
  • What are your issues?
  • Such as..
    - Sending an address from my contacts uses HTC's stock SMS app vs my default.
    - The HTC Sense Home, looks dated.
    - The Alerts rarely work, and it's part of the stock SMS app.
    - New contacts always default to Phone instead of Google.
    - Overall to much integration and dependency between HTC apps.
    - Etc.
  • As most of the comments have said, I agree, it is considerably generic looking. Especially the front. Surely they could have put some design into that. Oh well. Posted from one of my various Nexus devices.
  • How would you have "designed" the front? Anyone feel free to chime in... The ego did not post this
  • For starters, center the home button and capacitive keys between the bottom bezel. Posted via S7 edge
  • The front is all glass like the leak last year everyone loved except it includes an indented FP sensor.
  • YES! THIS. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Perhaps that perceived little extra space above the FP sensor is for the htc logo to visually balance for those who have a nit of OCD, or not if one considers the additional bottom chamfered aluminum.
  • I think this phone is gonna be gorgeous in person. Loving the silver model. Htc alway does well with redesigns. This will be a hit with tech blogs. Only hope that sales will match it. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Agree
All the "accolades" from tech blogs and reviews will be quoted in HTC's marketing promotions.
  • Looks nice but the front is still ugly af Posted via the Android Central App
  • Another commercial that showed me the design dramatically but said nothing about the phone.
  • It's not a commercial. It's more like a promotional video that's going to play at some point during the launch event, where people will be talking and giving you all the information you need. Posted via the Android Central App
  • I'm a Samsung person but I'm excited for this phone! Posted via the Android Central App
  • Look wise I'm not excited. It's the software that I'm looking forward to. The S7/S7 edge look better than this in my opinion. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Well, I think it looks great. Really digging the design. And from the sounds of it, the internal specs are pretty great too. Looking forward to it.

  • It appears to still have an IR blaster, if so, this will be a possibility to be by next phone. We also know that it will receive Android M no less than 4-5 months before any Samsung device....
  • One part of me wanted to come back to HTC. When they absolutely blew it last year with generic refresh of the M8. I'd had hoped that they'd have a fresh new design. Especially since what had been rendered for the 9. Instead we get the worst of all designs in this 10. It's the mullet of smartphones. Party on the back bland to boredom up front. Are they so bereft of talent that they couldn't put what made them stand out for the last few years. Heck their lower cost X9 sure can. At this point I'll wait for the thud when this literally drops. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Haha you probably weren't ever coming back to HTC in the first place. The M9 was not a garbage phone and if you believe that you must get all of your smartphone knowledge and opinions from these tech blogs. You seem the the type who probably wrote it off for its annoying black bar and bezel which have no impact on daily use. Smartphone nerds can be the worst sometimes. Posted via the underrated M9
  • I really hope they got it right. Waiting to see if it's worth the wait. Looking at a Nexus 6 or 5x using N5 now and it's been great hoping HTC change my mind . Posted via the Android Central App
  • I was interested until i seen that ugly ass button on the bottom. Looks like a Samsung phone. Im sad now why cant we just have a scanner but no button Posted via the Android Central App
  • Why not have a button? It's multi functional which i believe is better than monofunctional last i checked. Can't win with this crowd of exacting nerds. Posted via the underrated M9
  • I would totally go for the silver with a black face, and the detailing on the bottom of the phone is very nice. The large chamfer on the back and the smaller one on the front are growing on me. There are only so many ways to design a rectangular slab, and it seems like we've run out of ideas to make phones distinctive, but the chamfers work and look nice. Bet it feels good in the hand. The front is my least favorite feature, and I confess that I do think Samsung when I see the white one. However, the general masses have been ******** about the distinctive speaker grills on the front, so HTC removes them AND somehow keeps Boomsound stereo speakers, and now we are ******** about the front not being distinctive. Damned if you do and damned if you don't, lol. Fingerprint sensor is an oval, but you don't have a lot of design options. We want an FP sensor, and ovals and rounded rectangles and squares and circles have already been used. I don't think a triangle would look good or be very functional, lol. Of course, they COULD have put "HTC" on the sensor, but then the masses would be going for the pitchforks and torches again. I liked the ad and it draws attention to the phone design. If you are not a phone geek, you don't care about specs. If you are a phone geek, then you already know the specs. The intention of the ad is to make people ooo and ahhh over the design, and think about how nice it looks and how it will feel. To me, that is SO much better than a star talking about catamarans. Thick? We're not going to go there. Not when people are applauding Samsung for getting thicker for the sake of battery, which I think is the correct way to go anyways. Besides, that chamfer has the optical effect of making it look a bit thicker than it really is from some angles.
  • I agree,I'm using an S7edge I love.I am still allowed to say I think this phone looks great and I hope HTC has the best of luck.Just because you use a particular phone or brand does not mean you have to hate everything else.unless of course, the people that insist on doing so are maybe 8-10 yrs. Of age. Posted via the Android Central App
  • All good points. The phone looks great IMO Posted via the Android Central App
  • I'm actually really excited for this phone. Top of the line specs and build in a more manageable package. I also really want to see HTC succeed - if they stick around, more competition is better for all of us. Plus, they have shown to be really good at updates, and if I can get an unlocked/developer version direct from HTC, I'm sure updates will come in fast and furious.
  • HTC has a soft spot in the hearts of quite a number of us over here. They launched the first-ever Android phone. They were the first Nexus partner and launched the first Nexus device. They launched the One M7, still arguably one of the most beautiful phones ever made. Hope the 10 gets them back on track, though they also need to market the thing in a good way. And it has to, because their Q1 2016 reports are scary. Revenues fell by around 64.31% compared to the same quarter last year. It's terrifying when you think about it.
  • Love it. Excited for the launch. Posted via the Android Central App
  • I like it a lot. I am ready to order as soon as it's available. HTC has always made solidly built phones. Samsung has had good internal specs, but their phones are always built cheaply. My wife has had 2 galaxies with cracked screens as have numerous friends. HTC was one of the first with the solid aluminum shell (with the M7). While many are saying this is a IPhone and Samsung ripoff, those phones ripped off HTC in my opinion. Still in love with my M7, but ready for a new toy and the 10 looks like the perfect replacement
  • Agreed - got my 1st non-HTC last year (LG G4) and I'm done with it. Back to #1 HTC
  • You mean a metal version of the Samsung Galaxy S3.
  • Maybe with the fumble of LG, the HTC can make a comeback. HTC M8 was my first Android and everything was great except the camera and I missed the fingerprint reader Love for all things android and IT
  • Anyone know what the water/dust proof rating is on this phone? I haven't seen any mention of it in the leaks. Posted via Android Central App
  • I don't think there's any IP-certification for the HTC 10. The last one was like IPx3 or something, but it wasn't mentioned in any marketing material.
  • I think this is going to be their best selling phone since the One M7. As long as it has the trade mark good speakers and other specs we know, then it will be a hot seller if they market it right. Posted via the Android Central App
  • I hope this phone delivers. Ive been wanting to ditch my v10
  • Can I ask why? Didn't that just come out?
  • Garbage battery life and fingerprint scanner doesnt work with a case.. The battery was great till 3 weeks. After that it went to crap.. Its been since November i believe and their hasn't been a single update for the fingerprint scanner for the tmobile version. Posted via the Android Central App
  • LoL. - I had the v10 for about 10 minutes.
Got a G4 and been waiting for HTC ever since.
  • if the 10 is too much expensive, then my M8 will be replaced with HTC A9 i see that this phone have good specs, and maybe lower price in future, but now its too damn high in europe!

  • Idk. Looks good but I didn't see two front speakers ( Posted via the Android Central App
  • It has a top a bottom speaker, which sounds like an improvement to me. Front facing speakers are overrated imo. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Not really as front facing speakers play sound towards you, whereas bottom speakers or back speakers play it away from you. It might sound overrated to you but there are some people who really care about how external speakers sound. Posted on an LG V10
  • Actually the bottom speaker is angled so the sound doesn't go straight down.
Sure it's not front facing but it could be worse.
  • And they will sound much improved on the M10 I'm willing to bet. The front facing speaker thing was way too in your face (litteraly). I'm much happier that they went away from it. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Looks slick. Specs and looks line up in my book. If the 10 can last as long as my One X and M7 did (at least 2 years), I'm sold. Hopefully this phone is enough to get HTC back into the spotlight, or at least out of their slump. Either way, I'm hyped! Yet another addition to the great lineup of phones this year.
  • Don't see the boom sound speakers anywhere. Guess have to wait till tomorrow... Posted via the Android Central App
  • Its on the bottom, bottom. Next to the usb c port.
  • And you won't unless you consider some jack arse bottom firing speaker boomsound. Which frankly is a load of bs from HTC. At this point they couldn't fail harder if they tried. Posted via the Android Central App
  • You'll change your tune tomorrow.
    Guarantee!!!!
  • Don't worry. You'll hear it. #powerof10 Posted via the Android Central App
  • From the leaked reports that I have read, the earpiece and the bottom speaker are the new boomsound, and they are said to be very good. We'll have to wait until tomorrow, but HTC may be including support for MQA, which is a new (but backward compatible) audio encoding algorithm that includes far more information that traditional CD quality audio. We'll find out tomorrow.
  • Hmm, the single front firing speaker and bottom firing speaker setup is pretty interesting to say the least. Wonder how it'll sound, especially since landscape mode will almost guarantee that the palm of your hand will block out the bottom sound blaster. Posted on an LG V10
  • I'll say this yet again, as people are having a hard time understanding me. The front of the phone looks like a cheap Chinese iPhone knock off. Im not saying HTC have copied apple, or copied Samsung. I'm saying the phone looks like cheap rubbish. I'm well aware that there are only so many ways of configuring a phone front, yet Samsung have produced a work of art with the s6 and S7 edge. And Samsung phones used to look awful. If they can make something beautiful why can't HTC? Posted via the Android Central App
  • The front looks cheap because it is white. All white phones look cheap. The white iPhone looks cheap. White Samsung phones look cheap. Posted via the Android Central App
  • This. Though iPhone and maybe Samsung are among the least ugly.
I don't think I'd ever buy a phone with a white front. Posted via the Android Central App
  • I think the 10 looks great when you opt for the black front.
  • The black back looks pretty hot too. I just hope it wears better than the Black M7. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Uh oh the aesthetics snobs are out in full force I see! LMAO I see that phone and it looks great! It looks like.....wait for it.....a phone! And I bet the ppl that are saying the front looks like the s7 and it's ugly, are the same ppl that like the s7. Lol. The phone looks fine, my god. When u buy a desktop, do u say "I don't like where that button is at so I'm not buying it"? No probably not. This phone's shaping up to be a winner imo Posted via the Android Central App
  • Do you carry your desktop around with you everyday? Aesthetics matter more when you do. And actually, if I'm going to have a PC sitting on display in my home taking up space, I want that to look good too. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Sorry but this phone looks aesthetically great so far. I bet it will feel like an etched piece of metal. I still marvel at the beauty of my M9. To me it feels like a luxury device that can stand up to the elements. I imagine the 10 will feel even more so. Posted via the underrated M9
  • i wonder if the 10 will be as tough as the M9. I can't forget that video of the guys doing their drop tests onto concrete and being unable to break the M9. Then they propped it up and hit it with a motorcycle: Still working. Then they did a burnout on the glass, and the M9 shot 100 feet bouncing on the concrete... still working even though guts were coming apart. Although taking abuse in not my #1 priority, it's nice that they have a solid build.
  • I'm not saying it doesn't. It's quite nice, I'll wait until seeing one in person before deciding fully. But it's easily nicer looking than the M9 and A9. I'm just saying aesthetics matter, especially in something so personal that is with you at all times. I don't think it makes someone a snob for caring about how something looks. Posted via the Android Central App
  • I jumped to the Droid Turbo 2 (my first non HTC phone) after seeing the M9. I like what I see and this could make me go back, but I think I will wait a bit and see what people say about it. Posted via the Android Central App

  • It's so funny to see how gd nit picky all of the smartphone nerd rage has gotten these days. "Front fingerprint sensor?? I won't ever buy it in a million years!" Really? You haven't even used it and i bet you'd acclimate to it and say the opposite after a day of use. "The front is so generic looking! It looks like garbage!" So HTC decides to hide the front facing speakers instead of having the grills and that ain't good enough for you. It has to be different for the sake of being different? Did you want some racing stripes? I swear the smartphone nerds don't even know what makes a good phone anymore and are all just sitting around looking for something to hate.
