Galaxy S III on Verizon

Verizon has officially announced release details for the Galaxy S III, and we'll be seeing the device on Big Red on July 10. Pricing is $199.99 for the 16GB version, and $249.99 for the 32GB model. For your money, you're getting the same great internals (dual-core S4 SoC, 2GB of RAM, 4.8-inch Super AMOLED) on Verizon's nationwide LTE network.

At this point there's not much else to say about the Galaxy S III. Everyone loves it, and now (well, seven days from now) everyone can have one. The good news is all the rumors and wild speculation can be put to rest. Read Verizon's full press release after the break.

Does anyone know if this means that the pre-orders will ship out a little sooner than the ship-by date?? Hopefully, mine is scheduled to ship on the 10th. 7 more days of agony. :(

For what its worth a rep who actually sounded as if she actually knew here crap, said they are going to start shipping out over the weekend. I've been in this game long enough to be able to tell when someone is actually a good CSR and is one lion short of a Voltron. She sounded credible and KNEW about the July 9th date.

YzBrad99 says:

I talked to a rep and she said it will ship Monday.

taborcarn says:

Hmmm... My preorder still shows July 11th as the expected shipping date.

PamelaBB says:

same here 7/11

xemtra says:

thank
God

Subliminal says:

But...have they improved the radios or is it still going to suffer the same crappy reception as the Charge and the Nexus? If/when you guys review this thing PLEASE address the radios.

This.

Considering how many people are already on this phone and how many reviews (A few a saw were a 30 day challenge.) we've seen it sounds as if Samsung has gotten their radio crap together.

scorpiodsu says:

Yeah but no one has a Verizon version so we have to see how it functions on their network due to the differences in technology. And sprint doesn't have a LTE network up so can't see how CDMA/LTE work together right now.

*sighs* I wish people understood that the hardware in these other carrier's S3s are IDENTICAL to Verizon's. There is no difference. The only difference is they are using different bands, not different radios.

Radio issues DOESN'T EXIST on this model that's for sure. I gladly kicked Verizon to the curb for Tmobile and WOW what a serious difference. My Galaxy S3 just BLOWS AWAY the Galaxy Nexus i use to have. No question the Galaxy S3 is definitely BOSS on Tmobile i am glad I left Verizon they just never do anything correctly but overcharge you on your bill monthly. Not to mention the pitiful updates Verizon is the worst in the industry plain and simple. The BEST Galaxy S3 resides on Tmobile.

crome1115#IM says:

again.. no one has verizon's version. I dont know about other carriers and their samsung devices but the charge, the nexus and ive seen it on some stratospheres, have had nothing but issues with their antenna. a known issue by samsung and a strange one at that, that has affected the charge is where someone is on a call and the person on the other end cant here the person using the charge. almost as if the mute button had been hit. it has been going on for some time and samsung said they are aware but im sure that just like motorola and their texing issues after upgrading to GB causing the phones to freeze up and them being aware of the issue but never fixing it cause it was an older device. lets see.. im gonna hold off until i see what happens as people buy this phone.. i'm personally not a samsung fan but this phone looks like it might change my mind.

*sighs* I wish people understood that the hardware in these other carrier's S3s are IDENTICAL to Verizon's.

squiddy20 says:

...except for the radios

Also, the "no one has Verizon's version" was in reference to the fact that it won't be available for another week and a day, in case you couldn't tell.

Rob White says:

Watch out T MO! Now you got Richard to deal with. I hope you folks can keep him happy lol.

squiddy20 says:

"Radio issues DOESN'T EXIST on this model that's for sure. " ...not yet anyway. you really expect there to be no bugs on a newly released phone? Haha ok. You're "kool" (your spelling)
"My Galaxy S3 just BLOWS AWAY the Galaxy Nexus i use to have." Say it ain't so! A top-of-the-line phone that came out a few days ago beating out a phone that was released a little over 6 months ago with not-so-top-of-the-line hardware? You're such an insightful, intelligent genius! Not.
"No question the Galaxy S3 is definitely BOSS on Tmobile" Oh really? Just like the Galaxy Nexus you used to tout as "pimp slapping" or even the overly used "boss"? Or the "legendary" Evo 3D you had before that? Or the "almighty" Evo 4G you had before that? Please. You know nothing of what is truly "boss". Moron.
"Not to mention the pitiful updates Verizon is the worst in the industry plain and simple." If you had rooted your Galaxy Nexus like you said you were going to do countless times, you wouldn't have to worry about that, dumbass.

mhmmdy123 says:

Who cares about IMPROVING RADIOS! As Jerry Said all about VZW Wireless network! Count how many times Jerry said VZW network, Mean you are in good hand. Just open your wallet and you`ll be okay, trust me.

Bitter much? Let me guess. Lost your unlimited eh?

JD MBA says:

Judge Lucy "the scumbag" Koh better not even think about it....

TidBit says:

+1

Mtn_Scott says:

Are you threatening a federal Judge?

No he's hoping she is walking along with her iPhone and falls down a manhole, comedic relief ensues.

n0obpr0 says:

Followed by another person fallin in the same manhole on top of her... =)

She may be a scumbag, but she is a scumbag who is fallowing the law. Granted following it a little TOO close. You want to point your finger at something? Point it at the USPO who needs to be dissolved for gross stupidity. Hey guys. Lets hand out a patent on the idea of tapping and holding a contact will bring up multiple options. Or maybe handing out a patent on the idea of searching local and web based content at the same time.
God damn USPO. I want to break someone's nose over there. I don't care what excuse they have if they are understaffed for research before granting it or whatnot. Its still inexcusable. No one should be getting these god damn patents, be it Apple, Microsoft, or yes, even Google. NO ONE.

Well said. It is obvious to any reasonable person how very broken our current patent system has become.

Mtn_Scott says:

I thought it was supposed to be white???? That is more ivory, I hate Verizon, I am gonna go order Blue.

*sighs* Its the same color as all the other S3's on the market.

Mtn_Scott says:

Sarcasm Missed.

Pretty much yah. Hard to tell on the yet sometimes when someone is being legit or not. >.<

curley says:

White Pearl, is almost an ivory.

RaiderWill says:

As I predicted.. Anyone can walk in the store next Tuesday July 10th at 10:00 A.M. and just pick a color have it activated and be out the door ready to roll.

Woohoo!

FINALLY!!!

M4tty says:

What exactly was my incentive for preordering if I could just walk into the store and buy it the day before my PREORDERED phone ships?

HuskerDad3 says:

You were able to keep your unlimited data plan. We signed a new contract when we preordered, so we were able to keep unlimited data.

mettec says:

Remember that many of us pre-ordered the device due to the Shared Data Plan that came into effect last week and if you did pre-order you were able to keep your unlimited data plan otherwise you had to switch to VZW's new plans. That was many of our incentives to pre-order.

pckocher says:

I am switching to Verizon - they're the ONLY 4G LTE provider where I live. I preordered just to make sure I got one. Will have to suck it up and sign on to new data plan, but will enjoy inclusion of Mobile Hotspot.

Only question still nagging me: S3 or Galaxy Nexus? S3 has more RAM, slightly better specs all around, better camera, Gorilla Glass. Nexus is cheaper, with pure Android. Recommendations?

PeteyNice says:

Nexus on Verizon is a different animal than GSM Nexus. Look at how long (months) it took for those folks to get 4.0.4. Do you need a new phone now? If unlimited data is not a consideration I would simply wait. Better phones are always coming out and other carriers are constantly improving their LTE networks.

youngdrake says:

But don't wait too long or you'll get all backed up and fidgety. And still not have a phone...

Hand_O_Death says:

I have the Nexus on VZW and it is a great phone. BUT unless you plan on hacking away a good amount on it, the S3 is fantastic and I preordered the Mrs one already to keep unlimited. So go S3 unless you want to root and ROM a lot.

PamelaBB says:

that's why i pre ordered and that's why i got the s3 because it was the best phone available before 6/28 :)

@M4tty pre ordering the phone made you keep your unlimited data if you did it before June 28. If you didn't have unlimited data then at least you are guaranteed a phone.

joebob2000 says:

This! I preordered and its currently set to arrive on the 13th (according to the preorder status page). BUT, I kept my unlimited data! The 3 extra days without the phone will be totally worth it when I am sucking down 50GB/mo on the sweet 4G goodness on the SIII!

Good old battery draining LTE NETWORK on Verizon. The Galaxy S3 on that network will have the poorest battery life just like the Galaxy Nexus does. Thank God for Tmobile...

PeteyNice says:

I am sure you get amazing battery life when there is no pesky signal to deal with. Enjoy "Searching for signal".

heraldo says:

Amen

Hand_O_Death says:

Speed = more power. IE "The most POWERFUL network", so yea, the battery goes down faster, but it is due to use, not just the special radio waves in the air suck electricity away to nothingness like some like to suggest.

M4tty says:

I meant to put in there "aside from retaining my unlimited plan what was my incentive for preordering" but it makes sense I guess. I'm just bitter with Verizon.

joebob2000 says:

If keeping unlimited data in the face of the expensive new data tiers wasn't incentive for pre-ordering, wtf is wrong with you! Turn in your AC card!

cea1203 says:

Why is it only dual core and not quad core ???

mikesmith says:

Quad core and LTE don't play nice with each other.

Vikman says:

To make it compatible with 4g.

curley says:

Also, to make it fit. LTE chip is built into the dual core, quad core it would be separate and the phone would be fatter. Dual Core battery better with LTE built in. Just compare GSM Nexus to LTE Nexus.

scorpiodsu says:

Where were you when it was announced that none of the US versions will have quad cores. Nothing new here.

joebob2000 says:

JP version has 2 cores too. The big plus is the extra GIG of ram in this version. Extra cores need a proper multithreaded app to take advantage of them, but any app will benefit from more RAM. More cores = gimmick.

cea1203 says:

My upgrade wasnt until July 11 , so what I did was order the Droid X2 on the 27th ( they let me order that early ) and this retained my unlimited data , now within 14 days I will return the unopend Droid X2 and exchange for the Galaxy S3 :-)

trivor says:

THIS WILL NOT WORK - ALREADY BEEN DISCUSSED ON HERE. If you do an exchange it will be a NEW CONTRACT and you WILL LOSE YOUR UNLIMITED DATA. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Your only choices right now are:

1. Tiered Data (keep you current calling plan) $30 for 2GB ($10/GB overage)

2. Switch to Shared Plans

3. Buy unsubsidized (Full Price) to keep unlimited.

brucedbr says:

I did the same thing, but through Best Buy, since they have a 30 day turnaround time. I spoke to VZW, considering doing that through them, and I was straight up with the rep. She said she'd already done this with other customers, but cautioned me at that time, they didn't know a specific date, I may be after the 14 days. So I went with Best Buy.

mikesmith says:

PREORDERS SHIPPING!!!

Hand_O_Death says:

You get a confirmation email?

brucedbr says:

I wonder...for those of us that preordered at a Best Buy location...when we'd get our phones. Hopefully sooner! :)

Loony2nz#AC says:

Retail

16gb $600
32gb $650

OUCH

Actually, those too bad of prices. Especially for the 32gb model.

Just got my shipping notification and tracking number. Scheduled to be delivered on July 5th

sawtooth99 says:

Same here! ETA July 5th 3:00pm.

Are you serious?

Proof? When did you buy it?

Same. Delivery scheduled via FedEx before 3pm on July 5th.

Bought it the day pre orders started

Rob White says:

My pre order should arrive on the 5th according to my email notification also. So that will be the 4th Android phone on our acct. I have the Rezound. My wife has a purple Razr. My oldest Daughter has an LG something or other el cheapo phone she picked (Lucid I think?). And soon this. I might hand the Rezound off to my son after I give this a spin. After the unlocked Galaxy Nexus I just received today I guess you could say this is an Android house.

Did I mention I pre ordered a Nexus 7 also?

DawgFan79 says:

Pre-order from Best Buy = FAIL. The rep in the store I work at told me she got an email saying BBY would get it the 15th.

tag617 says:

MINE SHIPPED TODAY!!!!
Just got the tracking email from Verizon... should have it by the 6th :)

I preordered on June 6th

Anyone elses ship out yet?

Alfonsca says:

Woke up to a very pleasant email "Your Order Has Shipped" :-). Shipped out 7/3/ (and my account was hit last night). Still too early to find info in FedEd tracking system but should expect to get it tomorrow! Sad part is that I just pulled the trigger on buying 4 cases and screen protectors that won't arrive until 7/10 :-(. I guess I have to grab a case from T-mob since they seem to be the ONLY carrier with cases! Ordered 6/13 online :)
