Want to play PS4 games on your new Xperia Z3? No problem

IFA 2014 One of our favorite features of the new Sony Xperia Z3 line of devices announced at IFA 2014 is the PS4 remote play feature. If you're a PS4 owner and a Z3, Z3 Compact or Z3 Tablet owner you'll be able to download the new Remote Play application from the Google Play Store – and it'll be available at the launch of these devices – and hook into your console over Wifi for some remote play goodness. Call of Duty in bed? No problem!

Remote play also lets you use your PS4 Dualshock 4 controller to play the games. If you want to attach your phone to your controller Sony will happily sell you its new mount to do just that. It's basically a suction cup with a bracket that attaches around the controller and holds the phone, or tablet, securely in place while you game. If you don't want to use a controller Sony will overlay the Dualshock 4 controls on the display.

We've had chance to have a very quick first look at things in action, and we're impressed. Despite being staged by Sony, trade-show Wifi is never a reliable place to test, well, anything that needs Wifi, but generally performance was good. The connection dropped out a little but when you're at home with only a few devices connected to the Wifi you'll probably be fine.

It's an ecosystem play, for sure, but an impressive one nonetheless. We'd be lying if we didn't say that playing PS4 games on a smartphone made us smile just a bit. Just how good it really is will need to wait until real people in real homes get playing with it. Until then, check out our first look video below.

First remote play: PS4 gaming on the Xperia Z3

Pretty cool. I own a ps4. Not gonna buy an Xperia because of this. But that's a pretty cool feature and does peak my interest

Now I can sell my OLED Screen PSVita...

Wonder if I'll be able to remote play DESTINY while I'm at work?

How long until these feature gets backported to the Z2 etc is the question. I doubt there is a hardware difference making it possible.

Well, Z3 and Z2 are essentially the same phone, so it should not be hard to tinker around it... hopefully!

Should of bought a PS4 then.

>I'm the kind of guy who stops a microwave at one second to feel like a bomb defuser.

You don't need gimmicks like this to own a system I'd rather play on my 90 inch screen kinda the reason I bought a console. The gear vr stuff would be interesting though with this.

I hope it's as good as the Remote Play on the PS vita. Love PS4 and Sony. My best phone will definitely be an Xperia

This is great, but sony needs to release this other phones too, or get on all the carriers in the US. I could see making my next tablet a sony because of this. There is a greater chance that someone will hack the apk to work on other devices though and I will just go that route... If this was released all over android though, it would be a huge win for Playstation and Android.

Playing with screen controls these games is not gaming but some pervert masochistic experience, I do not get those people really, Call of Duty, hahaha, yeah - come and die quick
