Astraware releases Word Games exclusively for the B&N nook Color

Astraware has released their new Word Games application, and are offering it exclusively on the Barnes & Noble store.  It's a suite of five word games, that share a 100,000 word dictionary.  The games calculate scores based not only on the letters used and the length of the words, but also how "interesting" or uncommon they are.  The games are:

  •  Shuffle - Make as many words as you can with the letters provided including the 5, 6 or 7 letter target word to unlock the next level. The more small words you get, the bigger your score. Use the Shuffle button to mix the letters up and help yourself spot more words!
  • Hexxed - Make words by tracing your finger through the tiles to make a chain within the hexagonal grid! Two play modes - limited tiles or limited time. Create long, interesting or unusual words to keep your word power score up and earn more tiles or time!
  • Wordsearch - Find all the listed words within the grid of letters, horizontally vertically, or diagonally! Play using the standard dictionary, or choose from over 20 special lists of themed words!
  • Gridlock - Make words by tracing your fingers through the letters to make a chain. As you make words this lights up the tiles. Light up the whole grid to level up! Use special tiles to boost your word power, score bonus points and more.
  • Spellmaster - Challenge your spelling skills against words of increasing difficulty. Choose the correct spelling from a choice of 4 words, 3 of which are misspelled!

Games of this nature should appeal to Nook Color buyers, and having it included in the on-device app store makes it easy for Nook Color users to download and enjoy them.  Word Games costs $4.99, and of course is available from the Nook Apps Store.  The full press release is after the break.

HTC Holiday prototype found on Craigslist, works on AT&T bands

We know a lot of folks have been itching for the HTC Holiday since everyone first started talking about it this past May, but a lucky gentlemen has found one for sale on Craigslist.  Of course, he jumped on it and has since posted pictures online to kill the naysayers before they can chime in.  According to the buyer, the specs are what everyone expected -- 1.2 GHZ dual-core processor, 1GB ram, 4.5inch qHD screen, 8GB internal memory, with an 8MP rear camera and a 1.3MP front camera.  To make things even sweeter, this prototype is working "just fine" for AT&T voice and data.  Think of it as an EVO 3D or HTC Sensation for AT&T, and that's something everyone has to love.  While we feel bad that the glass is cracked, the buyer says it works just fine, and it's a fair trade for getting your hands on something we might not see officially for a little while.  Hit the source link to see more pics.

Fusion Garage’s Grid 4 smartphone specs and features

With their tablet now fully unwrapped, Fusion Garage has also unveiled their Grid 4 smartphone specs to go along with it. Those specs, fall in line with pretty much any Android device out there today despite Fusion Garages attempt to downplay the popularity of Android. Here is what the Grid 4 smartphone will bring:

  • Qualcomm MSM8255
  • 512MB RAM
  • 4.0-inch Inch display - 800 x 480 pixels
  • Tri-band HSDPA and quad-band GSM
  • 16GB Internal storage
  • Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n
  • Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, A2DP
  • 5 Megapixels with Autofocus and LED flash (720p video recording)
  • Front facing 0.3 Megapixels
  • 1300 mAh battery
  • Grid OS with Android applications

$399 unlocked with 16GB — operator availability will be announced later. Needless to say, the whole it's not Android but runs Android situation here is all rather confusing. Given Fusion Garages history, one would think they'd want to openly accept Android users in, not take the time to tick them off all while attempting to leverage Android applications.

Did Apple tamper with evidence in the German Apple v. Samsung case?

We're not about to come out and say Apple deliberately altered key visual evidence in the recent proceedings in Germany, which resulted in European imports screeching to an abrupt halt.  We will just let the pictures speak for themselves.  Dutch website Webwereld has compared the some of the images from the court documents (read them here, in German) to reality and found some disturbing differences.  In Apple's images, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 has been shown with a different aspect ratio (1:36 as opposed to the actual 1:46 -- the iPad is 1:30), causing it to more closely resemble the dimensions of the iPad.  This accounts for a full eight percent difference in the "short" side of the Tab, and you can see the result above.  If that weren't enough, the Samsung logo has been removed from Apple's image, and of course it's shown with the app drawer open instead of the normal home screen view.

Make what you will of this, but I'll imagine it had an impression on the German courts.

Fusion Garage announces new Grid 10 tablet - Runs on Android kernel, includes crazy custom UI

We've been hearing plenty about the Grid 10 from TabCo as of late but as suspected -- it was nothing more then a fake company created by the folks at Fusion Garage. Yes, the folks who made the JooJoo. As it turns out, they're making use of the Android kernel on their newly announced Grid 10 tablet. But don't call it Android -- sure, it can run Android apps from anywhere but don't call it that.

The folks at Fusion Garage aren't even sure Android is popular, and they believe that Android tablets are all the same. So they've gone ahead and created Grid OS as they call and not only will it power their tablet but it will also power a new phone they've developed.

HTC bootloader unlock page now up and running for European Sensation

"Are you sure you wish to continue? You are about to start the process of unlocking your device. Unlocking your device allows you to install custom Operating Systems (“OS”) onto your device."

Words many have been waiting to hear, and starting today, owners of the European version of the HTC Sensation can now put them to task -- HTC's bootloader unlock page has went live.  You'll have to accept all the legal terms and agree to them, specifically that your warranty may be void (in full or partially) and that HTC may charge for warranty repair work on unlocked devices.  We've known about this, so you shouldn't be too surprised.

You'll then be walked through the entire process from start to finish.  The instructions are extremely well done (they would be worthy of a sticky in our forums) and explain exactly how to use the needed components of the SDK with pictures, download links, and all the commands listed -- it's all a copy and paste job.  You'll be instructed to get a unique device "Identifier Token", which you'll submit to the HTC bootloader page.  They will in turn send you an email (to the address you registered on the HTC developer site with) with an unlock key and needed commands to use it.  Then you're gold.  It's all pretty well documented and  the commands seem simple enough, but remember -- there's never much room for error when doing this kind of operation.  Make sure you understand the process completely before you begin.

And that's it.  A simple solution to a problem that a lot of us have had with HTC.  Now we wait to see it be released for devices here in the states.

All those rumors you may have heard about the HTC Droid Incredible not getting Gingerbread?  Yeah, forget you heard them (and you didn't hear them here) -- Verizon's support website with the changelog and upgrading instructions went live this morning, and the news is good.  The Dinc will soon be seeing Android 2.3.4 and all the perks that come with the Gingerbread update, as well as a few other fixes:

  • MMS messages will now send correctly
  • Properly save audio files from MMS messages
  • Successfully play audio from MMS messages
  • Internet connection via Bluetooth now enabled
  • VZ Navigator now operates on Wifi
  • Change songs in the music widget by tapping the forward button
  • Camera now functions with an SD card inserted

As for the time frame (be honest, that's what we're all looking for), Verizon doesn't give us one, but the support documents are in place, and Dinc owners everywhere will be checking every 13 seconds -- we'll let you know as soon as we start seeing it.
