CM6 on the MyTouch 4G

You won't find it for download anywhere, it's being called "very broken" and don't dare ask for an ETA, but here's a quick peek at CyanogenMod 6 on the T-Mobile MyTouch 4G.  Less than 24 hours after getting properly rooted and a custom recovery made, this sure looks pretty.  Told you the ROMs would come soon.  [@kmobs]

clockwork recovery on the mytouch 4g

That didn't take long -- Clockwork recovery has been ported over to the myTouch 4G, and is available right from Rom Manager.  After we saw it ported to the G2, we knew the myTouch 4G would soon follow, and kmobs has done the deed.  There are several ways to get it and flash it, but it's hard to beat Rom Manager.  Be sure you're rooted, install Rom Manager from the Market and fire it up.  ROMs and assorted hacks soon to follow I'm sure.  The Market links for Rom Manager are after the break.  [@kmobs, @clockworkmod] Thanks timbo1083!

Does Sarah Conner live here?

The General Dynamics Itronix GD300 Rugged Wearable Computer may not help you navigate Vault City, but it certainly should help ground infantry troops stay alive -- and General Dynamics chose Android as the OS for this wearable combat computer.

What it is -- a very specialized GPS device, that has connectivity to tactical communications on the US armed forces secure network.  Glad to see that the military sees the value in Android, and maybe another manufacturer will make a version for the outdoorsman.  /ME wants an Android PipBoy.  The full press release is after the break.  [DefenseReview] Thanks Cory!

Eclair browser exploited

Last week,, security researchers at Alert Logic released the code to exploit the Android WebKit browser on phones and devices running Android 2.1 or earlier.  The exploit isn't the most serious issue ever released -- it appears to give someone running a webserver and listening on a certain port the ability to see your browser and media scanner history -- but it needs fixed, and quickly.

Which is why Google fixed it -- in the Spring when Froyo was announced.  Apple fixed it, too.  I can't find any documentation, but I'm pretty sure HPalm did as well.  I'll talk about it a little deeper after the break. [CIO.comThanks Dave!

7 inch samoled display

Samsung is showing off their new seven inch super-AMOLED display in Japan at the FPD International 2010 show.  The panel is WXVGA (1200x600), and as you can see above is being showcased in the next-generation Galaxy Tab.  Have a look at any of the Galaxy S phones, SAMOLED is pretty amazing, and seeing it on the Tab will be a welcome sight.  The price increase that's likely to come, not so much.  Samsung states that they will begin selling the new screens sometime in 2011. [OLED-Display.netThanks Erik!

G2 clockwork recovery

Here's what many were waiting for -- Clockwork recovery for the T-Mobile G2 is now available for all, and is as easy to get as installing Rom Manager from the Android Market.  Now all the hackery types have a real way to keep and restore their phone's software, instead of depending on carriers and handset manufacturers to do it for them.

Fire up the Market on your rooted G2, grab Rom Manager (link after the break), and flash Clockwork.  Easy as pie.  [@koush]

Optimus S

LG has released the required source code for the Optimus S, a mere two days after the handset was released for sale.  In the era where getting source code for open-source, GPL products sometimes seems like pulling teeth, seeing a company that follows the agreement they signed is quite refreshing.  Make no mistake, LG is serious about its push into the Android world.

This code won't mean much for most of you, but for the few Optimus S developers we're seeing spring up, it's like gold.  Give the fellows a bit of time, and get ready for your new Optimus S to get even better.  Hit the source link for the download, the model number you're looking for is LGLS670. [LG Electronics] Thanks ksmithinny!

Update - Looks like LG decided to take the source code down for whatever reason.

The Sony Ericsson Anzu

Not a lot to go on here, but that's supposedly the Sony Ericsson Anzu -- slated for a Q1 2011 launch, Gingerbread on board (yes the screenshot shows Eclair), 4.3-inch screen, HDMI out and is "very, very slim."

Anyone who has used any of SE's phones knows that the build quality and materials are absolutely top-notch. (see our X10 review).  The phones are amazing to hold and use, but the software and time to market leave a lot to be desired.  Let's hope SE learns from past mistakes, and gets this beauty (as spec'ed) out come late winter.  In the meantime, let's analyze and tear apart this rumor in the forums! the droids you're looking for

Verizon has put the pre-order pages for the Droid Pro and the Droid 2 Global online, and they both are live and ready to take your order.  We love seeing Android phones with "world phone" capability, as these two each bring something unique to the table.

The Droid Pro combines it's 3.2 inch touch screen with a front facing Qwerty, and is geared directly at the business professional.  Its specs are great, and I think the phone should make the ex-BlackBerry user feel right at home.  The Droid Pro lists for $179.99 on contract and with the rebate, or $479.99 off contract.  Check it out in action in our hands-on right here.

The Droid 2 Global adds world phone capabilities and a 1.2 GHz processor to the Droid 2, and is being labeled as "Enterprise Ready".  It's the first Android phone to break the 1 GHZ barrier out of the box, and we can't wait to see how speedy this one will be.  I'm feeling the winter white model, I have to admit.  The Droid 2 Global lists for $199.99 after rebate and on contract, or $559.99 if bought outright.

Hit the source links to get to the pre-order pages.  Thanks CJ and Ryan! [Verizon -- Droid Pro, Droid 2 Global]
